Final Days | The Space & Time Continuum Project

Robyn Veneer Sweeney & Mandy Evans

‘The Space & Time Continuum Project’ is a collaborative exhibition between Mandy Evans, who is based in the Blue Mountains on Gundungurra and Dharug Country, and Robyn Veneer Sweeney, who lives in the Snowy Valleys on land of the Wiradjuri peoples.

The project is a celebration of connection, trust, and the joy of collaboration, bridging time, geography, and ideas. Staged in Canberra at M16 Artspace, the exhibition sits at the midpoint between their two locations and serves as a testament to friendship and the power of working together.

Don't miss it - this is the final week to visit this joyful exhibition!

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 12 - 5.

Exhibitions run until Sunday 3 August.

Now Showing | The Space & Time Continuum Project

Robyn Veneer Sweeney & Mandy Evans

The title ‘The Space & Time Continuum Project’ is a playful take on the scientific concept of the spacetime continuum, which fuses space and time into a single, fluid experience. In this exhibition, it reflects how the artists each bring different perspectives to the same moment and how collaboration stretches across time, geography, and ideas.

🖼 [PIC] Two installation images of ‘The Space & Time Continuum Project’. The first depicts five circular artworks mounted on a white wall, each depicting whimsical scenes involving towers or transmission structures. The pieces feature various elements like floating sculptural forms and abstract patterns. One shows a tall tower with a green form in the sky, while another features colorful thought-bubble shapes alongside megaphones. The second image is a wide-angle photograph of the exhibition installation in a gallery with wooden floors. On the left wall are three blue-toned circular paintings depicting a landscape. In the center foreground stands a sculptural installation of organic, flower-like forms made from smooth, curved materials with pink accents. In the background, a series of colorful tower-like sculptures sit on white plinths under soft lighting. Additional round artworks and geometric pieces are displayed on the surrounding walls.

Robyn Veneer Sweeney, (NSW) ‘CONTAINMENT LINES’

Robyn said the title ‘Containment Lines’ makes a reference to a strategy used by firefighters to contain fires to a specific area, although The Black Summer Fires were so enormous, it overwhelmed the many efforts to control it.
The miracle of the survival of Pilot Hill despite being ringed by fires.
This site-specific work references the process of Kintsugi – the Japanese philosophy of Golden Mending, where gold is applied to a resin glue to repair broken objects. This makes the broken object more precious, as is Pilot Hill: being an historic stand of trees somewhat singed but still standing, living, and breathing. A symbol of resilience.
In my thoughts when conceiving of this work, I also considered the damage done to our local communities and hope they gain healing through contemplating that one of our special places survived the inferno, becoming more precious to us all.
Above all, Containment Lines is an environmental statement asking us all to connect with and take care of nature, providing us and wild creatures with shelter, health, and peace. It is as simple as that.

Having exhibited in Regional Galleries in Queensland, New South Wales, and most recently at Canberra Contemporary Artspace Manuka, multidisciplinary ecological artist Robyn Sweeney will be one of the artists whose sculptures will be officially unveiled in the Sculpture Forest on Thursday 18 April.

Robyn, who lives locally in Batlow has created ‘Containment Lines’ in a reference to a strategy used by firefighters to contain fires to a specific area, although 2019 - 2020 Black Summer Fires were so enormous, it overwhelmed the many efforts to control it.

‘Containment Lines’ acknowledges the miracle of the survival of Pilot Hill, in the Bago State Forest, despite being ringed by fires.

The work also references the process of Kintsugi – the Japanese philosophy of Golden Mending, where gold is applied to a resin glue to repair broken objects. This makes the broken object more precious, as is Pilot Hill for the artist “being an historic stand of trees somewhat singed but still standing, living, and breathing. A symbol of resilience.”

Above all, ‘Containment Lines’ is an environmental statement asking us all to connect with and take care of nature, providing us and wild creatures shelter, health, and peace.

We invite you to the Sculpture Forest - the latest stage in the development of the Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail that in the next month will grow to over 50 sculptures by artists from 14 countries at 12 locations across 150km of the Snowy Valleys.
