Sparks returned to Margate for the third year in a row for its biggest @ukcreativefestival yet. This year’s program spanned two days — part celebration, part conversation. We brought together creative leaders for a VIP lunch, took the main stage for a panel on human connection, and helped champion the next generation of UK creative talent through the @creativecircleawards

Here’s how the two days unfolded:

🐚 Shell Grotto: A private tour of Margate’s centuries-old underground chamber, followed by a walk along the coastline that shaped Tracey Emin and Turner.

🦞 Fruits de Mer at Angela’s: The first event ever held in the restaurant’s new private dining space — a shared lunch, produce-led and entirely of its place.

🎤 Creative Collision at Dreamland: A main-stage panel that extends The Connection Code — Sparks’ ongoing series with @wired discussing the future of human connection.

Hat-trick at the Creative Fest 🎤🎤🎤

Still reflecting on being back at @ukcreativefestival for my third year running, this time on a panel for @sparksintl x @wired Connection Code.

As Director of @youngcreatorsuk , this moment meant a lot. From a simple vox pop conversation at last year’s Creative Fest to working across Lisbon, Barcelona, London and The Outernet, this journey has been a real reminder of what can happen when young creatives are trusted with real briefs, real responsibility and real outcomes.

Access says: “You can come into the room.”
Agency says: “You can shape what happens inside it.”

What happens when creative worlds collide?

One of the most exciting sessions at this year’s UK Creative Festival was born from connections made at the festival itself.

🎤 Creative Collision: What Happens When Creative Worlds Collide? brings together voices from strategy, technology, art and culture to showcase how a simple conversation can grow into something extraordinary.

As AI and automation reshape our industry, this session explores what makes human creativity truly valuable.

The answer? People.

And that’s what the UKCF is all about.

Connection: 2036
25 voices. One future.
This installation is part of The Connection Code, a Sparks x WIRED series investigating human connection.
At Sparks Connection Code brunch during MWC Barcelona, senior technology leaders were invited to pause. In the garden of the Monastery of Sant Miquel, they wrote their answers to two questions on cards and hung them on a tree:
Imagine 2036: what is the boldest shift in how humans will connect?
Looking at the next decade of connection: what excites you, and what keeps you up at night? 25 of those cards were chosen.
Each answer was analysed for emotional sentiment, and a colour palette created to reflect the feeling carried in the words. Al then gave each prediction its voice: not a neutral reading, but a tone shaped by the nature of the reflection itself. The artwork is audio-reactive: the particles you see are moving in response to the prediction being read aloud.
Those 25 individual pieces then coalesce into a single collective work with all the reflections becoming a conversation between the respondents, their visions manifesting over time in a kaleidoscope of colours, shapes and connections, playing across Now Trending at The Outernet. Tonight, the screens are the only light source in the room.

Dan Hoopert's [@danhprt ] mesmeric work creates exactly this reaction. Through his practice, Dan aims to create a feeling of phenomena through abstract image and sound, blurring the lines between physical and digital.

We spoke to Dan about his innovative artwork:

"A lot of what I do revolves around communicating in an abstract way. I want it to form a feeling or the start of an idea.
I like the connection aspect of being able to place a thought or feeling in someone’s head through a reaction to the work without the need for any other form of communication."

We had such a lovely time at the last Harford House hang out, this time extremely kindly hosted by @degournay!

When I started as a designer I had almost no contacts in the industry, and it’s been such a joy to get to know all these wonderful, kind and talented people!

I was asked quite a few times that evening how I came to meet everyone and the answer for many was liking their work and emailing or messaging them! Very low tech, but very effective. At my core I’m a big fan of other people’s work and love to help promote and support!

I did a really bad job of taking photos this time so these are everyone else’s photos cobbled together! Classic.
