This past summer break, our PT and OT students went on a service trip to Ecuador to Damien Foundation serving those in the community with Hansen’s disease. During this time, we worked with the community listening to their stories and providing services to them. The trip consisted of seeing inpatients at the Damien Foundation along with going to a nearby community with a large population of people with Hansen’s Disease. We provided shoes and a helping hand to each person we saw. To end the week, we were fortunate enough to head to the Pacific Ocean where we went whale watching, snorkeled, and saw the beautiful nature of Ecuador! We want to thank the Damien Foundation for giving us an amazing experience and one that we will hold onto forever! ❤️💛💙

🌎✈️ **Rockhurst PT & OT are headed to Ecuador!**💙

Today, our Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students began a week-long service trip to Ecuador in partnership with the Padre Damien Foundation, serving the community of the Damien House.

While there, our students will:
👐 Provide Occupational & Physical Therapy services to individuals living with Hansen’s disease
🏥 Help operate an onsite OT & PT clinic serving both inpatients and outpatients
📦 Deliver much-needed donations, including shoes, medical supplies and equipment, over-the-counter medications, self-care materials, crafts, and clothing
🤝 Learn, serve, and build meaningful connections with the Damien House community

This experience is about so much more than providing healthcare—it’s an opportunity for service, mission, ministry, cultural learning, and connection. We are incredibly proud of our students for using their knowledge and skills to serve others.

💙 **Safe travels, Rockhurst! We can’t wait to see the impact you make in Ecuador!**
