@bigspecial_ clearly didn’t come to Moseley Park for a quiet afternoon.

Joe Hicklin commanding the stage, Callum Moloney giving the drums a proper workout, and a mix of punk, poetry and social commentary that gave Friday a considerable kick.

The Black Country duo might not be the obvious booking for a folk festival, but that was the beauty of it. Twenty years in, @moseleyfolkfestival still had plenty of room to turn things up.

An intimate evening with @aliciawitty at London’s @crazycoqs celebrating her latest album “Between Heaven and Earth”.

A performance that was haunting, beautifully surreal and unmistakably Lynchian.

@marenmorris had the final word at @thelongroadfest .

Her mix of country, pop and R&B leaned further towards pop than my own country tastes usually take me, but the crowd were clearly right where they wanted to be. A commanding headline performance to close out three days at Stanford Hall.

After all the rain, discoveries and miles covered between stages, there was still plenty left in the field for one last set.

Some voices need very little introduction. @emmylouharrisofficial has one of them.

After speaking with @tenilletownes about Emmylou earlier this year, this was a performance I couldn’t miss. Hearing that unmistakable voice at @thelongroadfest was something special.

A chance to photograph a country music legend at Stanford Hall was one to appreciate.

Somewhere between heaven and earth, music and memory, and perhaps even a David Lynch film…

Last night, @aliciawitty brought her deeply personal new album Between Heaven and Earth to London’s intimate @crazycoqs .

Accompanied by the brilliant @linusfenton and @joeherbertmusic (remarkably, with no rehearsal!), Alicia Witt delivered an evening of beautiful music, extraordinary storytelling and heartfelt reflections on her friendship with David Lynch.

Part concert, part conversation, and an experience I’m still trying to make sense of. But perhaps that was entirely the point.

Having the chance to chat with Alicia afterwards only reinforced what I’d witnessed on stage. An incredibly genuine artist whose warmth and slightly otherworldly charm extend well beyond the spotlight.

And for those who missed it, she’ll return to Crazy Coqs on 26th October.

@lilyfittsmusic bringing a softer touch to Sunday at @thelongroadfest .

Raised in Topsfield, Massachusetts, Lily writes about finding your feet when life hasn’t quite handed you the instructions. Her ep “Calling it quits” out nov 6th is a personal collection of songs perfect for getting to know her better.

EVAN DANDO TROLLS THE CROWD WITH ‘MRS. ROBINSON’ 😂

When someone shouted for ‘Mrs. Robinson’ at @thelemonheadsofficial Northampton @theroadmender show, @evand.ando decided to have a little fun with them.

And you can hardly blame him. Imagine having a back catalogue packed with absolute gems, only to hear requests for the same song night after night.

Don’t get me wrong, we all love a hit. But there’s so much more to The Lemonheads than ‘Mrs. Robinson’.

‘Rudderless’, ‘Confetti’, ‘Big Gay Heart’… need I go on?

Would you rather hear the hits or let the artist choose?

@jimlauderdalemusic had the songs. All we had to do was listen.

There was something special about catching a songwriter of his standing in such an intimate setting on the front porch at @thelongroadfest . No grand production needed, just years of craft and a reminder of how much country music history was sharing the space with us.

@ryanandrory made standing still look like a wasted opportunity.

Switching instruments, trading harmonies and throwing themselves into every song, the pair delivered one of my Sunday highlights at @thelongroadfest.

Their new music fitted straight into the party, with ‘BEER WANTS ME’ proving every bit as catchy as the title suggests. They also performed their then unreleased track‘ROCK IN THE RIVER’ which is our next Friday.

They looked like they were having the time of their lives. Watching them, it was hard not to join in.

@outpostdrive made a convincing argument for getting soaked @thelongroadfest

The heavy rain might have made the trip to Buddy’s stage debatable, but their heartfelt songs and finely tuned performance made it essential. In a space that intimate, you could appreciate every little detail, including the looks exchanged on stage.

Please, please, please, may we all find someone who looks at us the way Willow and Mary look at each other?
