what did it do?

dear dsu,

thank you.

never would i have thought going to college would give me the experiences, opportunities, relationships, and growth that it did. honestly, i had no intention of going to college at first, but my aunt gave me two options.. leave the crib or go to college.

on August 24, 2021, i stepped foot on this university as a student for the very first time, and i’m blessed to say my undergraduate journey officially ends today, May 15, 2026.

college isn’t easy, but you don’t have to make it harder than it already is. set yourself up for success. build relationships. stay consistent. put yourself out there. and most importantly, do EVERYTHING you can and WANT to do.

i have family members and friends who never had — and may never have — the opportunity to attend college, so i made it my mission for them to live through me. every picture i’ve taken, every financial literacy or mental health event i’ve hosted, every community service initiative i’ve led.. please know it was bigger than me.

it’s for my fallen soldiers.
it’s for my family, friends, and community.
it’s for the people praying for me.
and above all, it’s what God planned and anointed for my life.

this university is exactly what they say it is:
HISTORICALLY BLACK.

it changed my life, opened doors i never imagined, created lifelong relationships, and gave my family our first TWO degree$.

for that, i’ll forever be grateful.

if i can do it, you can too.
all glory to God.

with love,
Mr. 1%ER$ CLUB Him$elf 🎓

you are who you hang around..

i want to shoutout and thank the members of the GodBrothers, Healing Hornets, BMI, & the DSU WellRec. the spaces you’ve provided for me to grow into the multi-faceted individual i can confidently say i am in a fashion i never expected to experience, were a blessing to be present in, and i can’t thank every member, advisor, co-worker, & pro-staff enough.

i pray you all know that the guidance, reassurance, and patience you pour into me, i pour into others. thank you for giving me genuine relationships, memories, and the credibility to express my passions, ideas, and hardships. i’ll cherish all the morals and principles i’ve gained, and strengthened with you all. 🤞🏾

if you want to go fast, go alone. if you want to go far, go together..

growing up with two brothers, i always wanted to have a sister. through every step of the pageant, you and my pageant bros showed me endless support, love, and humility. we all went from RAG$ to RICHE$.. rich in service. rich in progress. the opportunity to be a part of this pageant was a blessing in disguise, that cultivated some of my most genuine friendships and bonds.

i treat you all like family, because during my childhood growing up in northside wilmington, delaware, i’ve witnessed the woman in my life go through traumatic and life-changing situations. growing up where & how i did, you’d want to be the change you need to see too.

i always wanted to normalize service, chivalry, and integrity.. AND I HAVE.

Zeta Delta, i want you all to know, that the man i am now, was molded by our countless memories, intellectual conversations, and shared intention to serve this illustrious campus and community. thank y’all for trusting me, confiding in me, laughing, crying, praying with me, and so much more.

above all else, thank y’all for helping me become a GREATER man.

Mr. Rhoyal Blue & Gold $igning Out.. 💛

the graduate:
grounded, growing, determined, purposeful.

Graduating college means more to me than just earning a degree. This journey challenged me, strengthened me, and showed me that purpose takes perseverance.

There were long nights, moments of self doubt, burnout, and times I questioned if I could make it this far — but I kept showing up for myself and for the future I’ve always dreamed of.

To my parents, thank you for believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself. Your love, sacrifices, and support made this moment possible.

I’m leaving this chapter more confident, resilient, and grateful for every lesson that shaped me into the woman I’m becoming.
