Celebrating 12 years of @continentalnaples 🍾 The Naples-favorite restaurant is marking the anniversary with $12 bar bites and bevs. My favorite was the Wagyu hot dog Cuban sandwich, but the menu also features caviar-topped deviled eggs, steak sandwich sliders, oysters gratin and more. For drinks, options range from a martini and Old Fashioned to a spritz and wine. The special continues through October 12th, so there’s still a few more days to celebrate with them. 🥂

Dinner was over. But dessert had other plans. 🌼

At the D’Amico Family Dinner, guests left the table to find drinks waiting—and a few more reasons to linger. Chocolate mendiants met the cherry cocktail, then Henderson Flower Co. took over the gathering space with a late-summer flower stand where the blooms were, quite literally, good enough to eat.

The desserts, imagined by @pastryleah, included Chocolate Rose Brownies, Summer Fruit Crostatas, Floral Lollipop Bouquets, Milk Chocolate Raspberry “Flower Pots,” Orange Blossom Shortbread Cookies, Grilled Strawberry Honeysuckle Shortcakes and Lemon Elderflower Macarons.

And then, Eat Your Veggies. A roaming box of sweets disguised as produce, with meringue mushrooms, sugar cookie cabbage truffles, chocolate cherry tomatoes and white chocolate carrot cheesecake cones, all nestled into chocolate “dirt.”

The market may have been closing, but apparently dessert had one more stop to make.

Saturday Snapshots 📸

The past few months have been quite turbulent, but now I’m back in Naples, getting settled again. And just maybe, at 69, I’m learning what independence looks like for me.

The truth is, I’ve never really lived on my own. I didn’t go away to college. I moved from my childhood home into the home I shared with my husband. For more than 46 years, we built a life together where John handled the finances, and I made our house a home.

Now, I’m learning how to do things for myself. From the practical to the personal, I’m making all the decisions.

This week, I celebrated a small victory: I finally figured out how to maneuver the three remote controls between the television and cable. It may sound silly, but to me, it felt like an accomplishment.

My mornings were slow and quiet as I enjoyed freshly ground Kona Joe coffee, a thoughtful gift from a friend.

I added a few fall touches around my home. Nothing too much, just enough to make things feel familiar.

And my morning prayer routine has a new book, thanks to another dear friend.

These are small things, but lately, those are the moments I’m taking the time to embrace.

As I step into this new chapter of living, I know there will be times when I question my identity, and I certainly don’t have all the answers.

I’m learning as I go. And I have a feeling there are other women who have found themselves in similar situations.

I’d love for you to share your experiences with me, too.

Some tables are set. This one was rooted in community.

Inspired by the farmers market that happens at Mill City Museum each week, we brought our own take to the D’Amico Hospitality Family Dinner—an evening centered on gathering, creativity and the people who make our industry what it is.

At the center, an entirely edible centerpiece became the evening’s first course, setting the stage for dinner, conversation and a room full of industry friends.

A nod to the venue, a celebration of our community, and a night designed to be shared.

Because hospitality has always been about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about who’s gathered around it.

A farmer’s market, reimagined for the dinner table. 🥬🫜🍅🥕

For the D’Amico Hospitality Family Dinner at @millcitymuseumevents, we brought the spirit of farm-to-table dining to life by creating our own little marketplace in the heart of this iconic, history-steeped venue.

There were the Lettuce Ladies, pickle-making with Pete, a lemonade stand that was anything but basic, tomato-inspired cocktails, and desserts that looked straight from the garden. Even the centerpieces were part of the harvest, filled with fresh produce, potted herbs and edible flowers that blurred the line between table setting and farmer’s market.

Guests picked their lettuce, made their own quick pickles, and settled in for an al fresco dinner surrounded by the colors, textures and flavors of the season.

In a season that can often feel hectic for event professionals, we were honored to gather our industry friends to take pause, root themselves in community and remember how important this work truly is.

Okay, this truly made me laugh out loud. My GPT warned you…but I have a feeling that’s not going to stop you 😂

Thanks @jodimayerssps for doing this first and making me wildly curious about what my own agent would say about me.

It really is amazing what these bots come up with. They have us right where they want us, and I’m here for the laughs.

I told @hollyknoll in an interview once that I’ve been training my AI, feeding it as much information about me as I can: concepts I’ve been thinking about, projects I’m working on, ideas I’m chasing, and the little ditties that pop into my head along the way.

Well, apparently it’s been taking notes.

It summed me up about as squarely as I’ve ever heard it. Equal parts hilarious, horrifying, and oddly affirming. Such a fun little exercise in self-awareness…not that self-awareness has ever stopped me before 😂

Gratitude for one of the coolest collaborations we’ve had the opportunity to be part of this year. 🌿✨

Diane’s Place is putting Minneapolis on the map, not only through Diane’s incredible culinary creations and authentic approach to Hmong American cooking, but through the beautiful spirit she brings to hospitality. She is a profound leader, guiding a team of more than 100 people while creating the kind of experience that makes you feel genuinely cared for the moment you walk through the door.

So, of course, it made perfect sense that my dear friend Katherine (@roepkepr) chose @eventsbydianes for the after-party brunch celebrating her fabulous husband’s retirement from the University of Minnesota and his 80th birthday.

Legacy celebrating legacy, surrounded by legacy.

I couldn’t be more honored to play a small part in bringing it all to life. This collaboration pushed all of us artistically, weaving together flowers, food, hospitality and friendship to create a celebration I don’t think any of us will soon forget.

And somehow, the story gets even better.

The potted hydrangeas we incorporated into the floral designs will now be planted on Diane’s property, where they’ll continue to grow long after the party has ended. A little piece of this extraordinary weekend taking root and becoming part of the landscape.

And hopefully, we’ll get to watch them grow over many fabulous dinners at Diane’s Place for years to come. 💐
