500,000 miles. 80+ countries. Until two weeks ago, I didn’t have a bike in the UK. This was the first time I’ve ridden ‘this road’ on a motorcycle. It’s in the Cambrian Mountains in mid Wales, on the way home, from a day at Sweet Lamb Adventure Centre, and for almost 30 minutes I rode straight towards that stunning sunset. You can see me get emotional on the way. If you ride, you’ll know why. If you don’t, I’ve never found a way to explain it. I haven’t announced the bike yet, but the bars, screen and tank are in the video. Every photo I take is a bit of riding I didn’t do. That’s the deal when you ride and shoot. The photos of me on a bike usually come from Lisa, or from me setting up the shot myself. Either way, one of us is having to is think about the camera instead of the ride. At the Cardo Venture launch day at Sweet Lamb, that someone was Roberto, a pro photographer. I was on a brand new Ducati DesertX, my first time on one, and I never had to think about a single frame. No stopping, no going back to do it again for the camera. I just rode, and Roberto caught it. I’m used to being behind the lens. But not this day, it was I’t was a day of pure riding. Here is what that day looked like from the outside. If you ride and shoot, you know what I mean. A great day at Sweet Lamb Offroad Centre in Wales with the Cardo team, riding the new Ducati DesertX V2 and getting to try out the Cardo Venture helmet. First impressions? Seriously comfortable, straight out of the box. No break-in period needed, true to size (I'm a medium), and so lightweight you hardly notice you're wearing it. That's a big deal for those long days in the saddle. The other standout was the crystal-clear sound from the integrated JBL speakers and just how easy it was to pair up with the group. Less fiddling, more riding! The Venture combines the proven Leatt helmet platform with integrated Cardo Dynamic Mesh communication, making for a really interesting package for adventure and off-road riders. One day is just the start, though. I'm hoping to get my hands on one in the near future for a proper long term evaluation and find out how it performs on everything from local trails to longer adventure trips.
