After 25 years and many thousands of hours underwater around the world I finally broke a life promise and went for a dive in England 😅

The site was chosen for me and it was (obviously) a quarry, with 2m vis and a water temp of around 14°C even in the middle of summer.

It was an absolute pleasure to share the very green experience with @marksharmancam while we completed our @gates.underwater STO course on the dual 8K Black Magic Cine Immersive camera inside a Gates housing.

Thanks so much to Gates, @richstevenson.uk @dave.blackham and @waterproofmedia.tv for putting on the course for us. Looking forward to putting this rig to the test in slightly better conditions back home in Malaysia soon

Sharing a moment with Her Deepness @dr.sylviaearle

Spending long days with people on a boat is such a wonderful way to get to know them. We shared dive stories, snacks, science facts, jokes, boredom, tea and more. But mostly we all listened to the wisdom of this incredible woman.

Sylvia is the original Ocean warrior. Her energy, passion and vigour at 89 years old puts all of us to shame. Thank you for fighting relentlessly for our Oceans for over 50 years. I hope the work I did helps the cause in some small way. Sylvia it was an honor spending time with you both above and below the waves 🙏

Very grateful to have won a News and Documentary Emmy 🏆as part of the cinematography team for David Attenborough’s ‘Secret World of Sound’ Produced by the wonderful team at @humblebeefilms and shown worldwide on @netflix and @skytv in the UK

Thank you to @theemmys.tv Humblebee and to Producer Bridget Appleby and Director @nali_fish for bringing me onboard to shoot a story about the saddleback clownfish that live close to my home here in Malaysia.

To be honest, working consistently in wildlife film-making is its own reward. I get to do something creative, and work alongside some of the most talented and lovely people I could ever hope to meet. Being a part of that worldwide filmmaking community is a real source of pride and joy. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t nice to win the odd gold star every now and then 😅

We shot the story at Scuba Junkie Mabul Resort with the team at @scuba_junkie who were incredibly helpful in recceing and supporting us before and during filming.

Biggest thanks is reserved to my good friend and regular AC, safety diver and fish whisperer @jasonisley without whom these beautiful benthic stories would never look as good.

We were kept safe by Dive Supervisor Jaap Barendrecht who also fixed every single thing that broke 🙌

Capturing the bumphead parrotfish rutting on camera for @netflix Our Oceans was the culmination of a long journey for me.

Series producer Jonathan Smith had attempted it with us for a previous project but while we worked out where, when and how to do it we just couldn’t get a clean and close hit. In all I think I’ve done eight separate shoots over eight years before finally being successful.

When I finally saw and heard it up close I remember my AC Jason and I turning to look at each other and our loops almost fell out of our mouths! It’s a visceral noise that you almost feel more than hear. Like a car crash combined with a banger going off. I really hope we managed to convey that raw power in the sequence.

While Filming the bumpheads for Indian Ocean I’ve had the privilege of working alongside @jasonisley, my AC, safety diver, naturalist and so much more, and @ollie_depp - Field director and Duracell bunny - always positive and happy at 430am when we need it most!

Thanks so much to Indian Ocean episode producer @joetuck for believing and trusting us to get this behaviour. And for going for it every time we got on a call and asked for just one more shoot 😅

The story was filmed at Pulau Sipadan off the coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.

Thank you to @scuba_junkie for putting up with all our ridiculous requests and to their awesome dive staff @afat_abdurahim and skipper Yulo for their boundless energy and enthusiasm.

There is a deeper dive into the sequence on my website - link in bio

Shoot completed!

Thanks so much to Suzette, Ramesh and all the staff at @seaventuresdiverig Every time we stay here they go the extra mile to make sure we have the best chance of success. They are flexible, friendly and nothing is too much of a problem. Really can't thank them enough for helping make this shoot a successful one.

Thanks to @jasonisley for assisting underwater, lots of grip on this one so he had his work cut out for him! @ollie_depp for directing us with his usual aplomb, our divemaster Tark for his knowledge and enthusiasm and @ncfilms (not in the photo) for DIT and field editing.

Can't mention the programme or broadcaster but it will be airing in 2026 😅

Shoot was fixed by the ever awesome @scuba.zoo
