😁 Great to see @minty_macc competing in another international event this year. She started off the season in Salt Lake City and is now competing in the 2 end of year Para Climbing events in Korea and Japan. 👏🏽

😀 Always with 2 of the best biceps in the business💪💪, a smile and committment to team psych, Minty told @ausclimbing recently,

"I'm excited to be back at it after a few months training hard - feeling strong physically, even if the mental strength still needs some work, and so excited to get amongst the paraclimbing community again. I've been really training to understand unique ways for my body to solve on-wall challenges, and if I take anything away from this comp, I'm hoping it's that I'm better at translating my training gains to comp progress! Pumped to try hard, learn a lot, and see how my training pays off."

Late to the World CP day party but we'll pretend I'm in the northern hemisphere okay?

I'm rarely (publically) vocal about my disability and how it impacts me, so bear with me. I'm one of the ~50 million people in the world with cerebral palsy.

Often, it is easier to measure the impact by what I can't do, but because I'm petty, I simply won't. I choose to focus on what I can do - which is some kinda cool stuff.
Sure, my 'measure of achievement' is different - BUT that doesn't make my achievements easier to accomplish, or worth less. I work hard to understand my body, what it will do, and how I can make the most out of my special skills* Climbing helped a lot, but so does community. I've learned so much from people who are on a relatable journey to me, and for that I'm grateful.

Einstein said, 'If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid'. Hi, I'm the fish. The world is not (entirely) an ocean.

If you measure myself, or other people with cerebral palsy against what a differently disabled or able-bodied person can do, then we'll likely come up short. Not because we can do less, but as the result of measuring with the wrong stick. So put that stick down. It's not helping anyone.

People might be able to do what I can do, but success is relative when you're operating with some pretty unique biomechanics. Especially when you are just a fish, looking at a tree, asking it to be the sea (and climbing it anyway).

Taking on a side quests away from wheelchair basketball 💕

I competed in my first paraclimbing competition at the Para National Cup, run by @sportclimbingaustralia & @ausparalympics Thank you for hosting such a great event and making it such a fun experience to be part of.

A huge thank you as well to everyone involved with the @ausparaclimbingteam , and to @coach.alexmac for being so welcoming and patiently answering my hundreds of questions.

Also very grateful to everyone at @oasis_climbing & @climb_well for helping me find climbing in WA and teaching me so much along the way.

Hoping I’ll see you all again at another comp soon… even if it might take me a little while to get back to one 💕

Sometimes you regret not recording how you constructed a dish…. What is basically a pasta dish made from things that were destined for the compost, it was overwhelmingly delicious. Starting off is the pasta dough: 185g 00 Ben Furney flour, 15g Ben Furney semolina, 2 eggs, a teaspoon of turmeric powder and slight adjustment to hydration as mixing. Three rest periods because my hands are bad at the moment so more resting spread the load with kneading. Now the sauce-roasted eggplant, roasted shop mushrooms that were well and truly past their best and our shiitake mushies. Into the food processor with some leftover mashed potato, nooch (aka nutritional yeast) rosemary, thyme, s&p and breadcrumbs. Blitzed until a nice consistency then into fridge. Had the kids on pasta duty so we had all sorts of surprise shapes. Amazing how when you let them fly some amazing things evolve. Gave the 6 year old a pic of agnolotti and she did brilliantly, might even be a new shape! I was hovering keen to interfere but it’s important to just let them go. I made a few using the lovely ravioli mold from @trupasta which were beautiful but once covered in sauce effort seem to be inconsequential. Sauce-Very loosely based on a recipe from @pastasocialclub without the butter. A can of quality tomatoes, onion, leftover filling of roasted eggplant & mushrooms, garlic, my black garlic, basil and pasta water. Topped with pangrattato for me, pangrattato and a blend of pangrattato, parmesan, provolone & parsley for him. This post is lengthy purely so I can recall the process. It was great!

Is ‘smart arsery’ a valid grammatical action term? If not, it should be! I was so happy with how my #kabanos looked before hitting the smoker but I couldn’t resist having a fiddle to ‘perfect’ them thinking I would make things better….. (smart arse). Well I managed to split some of the skins but it does mean I have learned a bit more about this intriguing process and I do love learning. Recipe from @a_charcuterie_diary (thanks @downtown_darkroom for the recco) and it smells amazing. Smoked in my digital smoker and is now going to ‘age’ for a few days before testing. I already can tell by the smell though that it will be good. My next little learning project is underway on the verandah. Have a guess as to what it might be. Hopefully no fire extinguishers necessary. 😂
