I started an Arizona count down 🙌🏼. Flight has been purchased and I’m finally making the trip out to Arizona to experience some RC drifting, and I couldn’t be more excited!
I’ll be visiting Tandem RC @tandem_rc November 20th, 21st & 22nd! There’s also a chance I might hit another RC spot while I’m out there, but we’ll see how the trip unfolds!
I can’t wait to meet new people, and link up with the AZ drift community / friends, and make some memories on the track!
THE COUNTDOWN IS OFFICIALLY ON!
.
Thank you @jr_slydes for the clip: 🎥

1mm of adjustment, then 0.5mm then finding the right balance! Tuning this car with ver. T knuckle. While it’s not specifically designed to match US-style drifting, it’s got really fun characteristics that make you say “what if?”

Tuning is a never ending, but it’s fun to see the progress of this car so quickly 😊

HPI Stage D10 is pretty capable even with the notoriously tricky DX1 Type-T motor

I realized the trick with the Type T is to run no boost or turbo. Timing advance is unnecessary on a coggy torque motor that can always break traction at low rpm. Setting boost and turbo to 0 on my hobbywing 10BL120G2 made the throttle smoother and more progressive while also reducing heat in the motor. The car had no trouble maintaining depth in the zone despite only having ~27k motor rpm to play with. I guess with enough torque you barely need any wheel speed to free up the rear. It's like the complete opposite end of the spectrum from a Burn Tune

The chassis has been impressive in its tuning capabilities and out of box performance. Haven't had to change much to get the car feeling very advanced already.

I have honestly been most impressed by the value, ease, and effectiveness of the body mounting system that comes with the chassis kit. A good body mounting system is worth $50 by itself and this $150 assembled chassis kit includes what I think might be the new best magnet system on the market. Pretty crazy value.

On the steering front I'm enjoying a standard RS-ST servo with a yokomo v4 gyro. Steering endpoints 100, channel 3 endpoints 120, gain -66. I have not yet gone into depth tuning the front alignment but I am excited to play with all the options available. Between all the attachment points on the knuckle and the ackermann adjustable bell crank I think it will be easy to explore a variety of different tuning archetypes all within the same chassis.

I believe the rear end on these has a 3 gear transmission, and that has taken some getting used to. All my yokomos are 4 gear pro squat transmissions. The 3 gear HPI car seems to lift the rear on throttle which makes it step out and float very easily. After raising the rear roll center and adding some negative camber gain geometry I found the car behaves very progressive and predictable in the rear. Catches hard, holds stable, steps out predictably.

Good car!

Back on track 😏 Tested T-knuckle (@taku_jp_official ) knuckles and found it to also suit my driving style! It transitions quickly very aggressively and found it pulls the car out of the turn nicely. I also ran my Supra from @rd_hikaru__ ! I bought it without seeing it in person and was surprised when I found out it’s the type r version so it’s super lightweight! It’s painted from the outside and I’ve added plenty of scratches already 😎
