POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

MADMAX is delighted to present its first Viewing Room - a space where works are revealed ahead of exhibitions and narratives begin to take shape.

For this inaugural edition, we have selected four artists that will soon be joining the MADMAX programme. The works they have proposed explore themes centred on domestic spaces, shifting images, buried narratives and thresholds where forms shift.

Garance Matton // @garancematton

Born in 1992, Garance Matton is a French artist who graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A resident at POUSH since 2020, she is represented by Galerie Manon Sailly and has recently exhibited work at Galerie Perrotin.

Through her painting, she explores the realms where the image ceases to be self-evident. Drawing on the traditions of the Quattrocento and a contemporary reflection on transformation, she creates spaces where temporalities intertwine and figures elude the viewer.

In our Viewing Room, she presents Homepage, a painting in which domestic space and the screen converge. A woman absorbed in her phone moves through a house dotted with open windows: between interior and interface, home and homepage, the image becomes a shifting space where reality is reconstituted.

At COLLECTIBLE Brussels 2026, the CURATED section Echoes of Use, developed with guest curator Marine Mimouni (@marine.mimouni), invited visitors to reflect on the subtle traces objects gather through gesture, light, and time. The presentation was enhanced by a poetic scenography by Lisa Bravi (@lisabravi) & Romain Joly (@romainjolyy), whose textile installation, inspired by the structure of the cardboard box and supported by Pierre Frey (@lamaisonpierrefrey),created a delicate and immersive setting for the works on view.

It was through conversations with emergent designers that I realized how often the idea of memory came up in their discourse. Many evoke the figures who have shaped the history of design, reflecting on their influence and on how this legacy is taken up and reinterpreted in contemporary practice.

This dialogue between past and present runs throughout the selection presented in the Curated section for @collectiblefair. But beyond the history of design, the focus is primarily on another form of memory, one that is built through use, over the course of the relationship between an object and its user.

The exhibition "Echoes of Use" is rooted in this idea. The objects are not only considered through their design, but also as carriers of memory in the making. A memory shaped by gestures, sensations, and interactions, gradually inscribed into the material.

Each piece presented in the Curated section questioned, in its own way, its own function. The selection was intended to be both open and subtly critical. Above all, it invited a direct experience in order to fully engage with the relationship between the object and its use.

For the scenography, I also wanted to create a moment of reflection. My idea was to recreate a moving scene. These are often the moments when we pay more attention to the objects around us. We ask ourselves if we should keep them, we remember the stories connected to them, and we realize how attached we are to them.

To create this scenography, I invited @lisabravi and @romainjolyy to collaborate. They won the Chanel Visual Merchandising Prize two years ago at Design Parade Toulon @villanoailles. The following year, during another project in Toulon, they designed a textile pedestal that looks like cardboard. When I first saw it, I immediately felt it was perfect for the scene I wanted to reflect. Thanks @lamaisonpierrefrey for being our partner.

Thanks again to @livvaisberg and @cleliedebehault for their trust in this project!

Grateful to @collectiblefair for presenting Line of Memories as part of this year’s edition.

Thank you @marine.mimouni for the curation, and @lisabravi & @romainjolyy for the scenography.

It was a pleasure engaging with the community over the course of the fair.

Line of Memories explores the idea of memory as something that evolves with time. Certain moments remain closer than others, forming a quiet line of experiences that shape how we remember and reflect.
