🦇 📕Tales Calculated to Drive You Bats #1 from 1961, complete with an uncut Wolf Man mask centerfold that kids were actually meant to wear. Somehow this one survived intact for 65 years! Thanks @timboscomics for this stellar copy!

❤️Teen Age Romances #2, published by St. John in 1949.

I love this Matt Baker cover. You’ve got a young nurse meeting up with the handsome doctor after her shift, while another nurse watches from the background clearly not thrilled about it. It’s a scene from the story “I Dared to Kiss and Tell” inside the book, and Baker tells you there’s some hospital romance drama going on before you even crack it open.

I included a few of the splash pages so you can get a feel for the stories inside. Turning sixteen and dreaming about finally getting a date, falling for the bad boy everyone warned you about, running off after a guy headed to Boot Camp..the drama is all there for these teens.😂

This copy came from my great friend James over at @codebluecomics . I finally got to hang out with James at the Collectors Summit this year, and he’s just as cool in person as he is on the show. 🥃 Great dude and friend for life.

In Love #4 (1955) ❤️

Love was definitely in the air this weekend as Sarah and I attended a wedding, so it felt like the perfect time to share this Golden Age romance book.

To help kick off the @thecomicunderground Anticon , we’re participating in #curgoldenera with this beautiful copy of In Love #4 from Mainline Publications, part of the legendary Simon and Kirby romance line.

At first glance, it looks like a typical 1950s romance comic. But this book holds a fascinating place in comic book history.

In the early 1950s, growing public concern over comic book content led to calls for government regulation. In response, publishers created the Comics Code Authority,a self-regulating body designed to keep comics “family friendly.”

When In Love #4 hit newsstands, it became one of the first comics ever released with the now-famous Comics Code Authority seal on the cover. Within months, the stamp would appear on nearly every comic book in America, but this issue was there at the very beginning of that era.

Can you guess the other two comic books that share this piece of history with In Love #4?

Quick shoutout to my good friend, @deadhormoans , who gifted me this incredible piece of comic book history. If you want to see some truly historical books, go check out his page. His collection is absolutely next level.
