Last week I spent 2 days in @lorealacademy in NYC for the Texture Mastery Pro presented by The Texture of Change. Learning how textured hair is shaping beauty’s future & learning from different classes for from color, cuts, & even styles from runway on textured hair. It ignited so much excitement & also impactful conversations. Did you know that when I went to beauty school there was very little knowledge being taught on textured hair. Now NYC & NJ officially requires all state cosmetology and natural hair styling programs to incorporate comprehensive training and testing on curly, coily, kinky, and wavy hair! How amazing is this!

Looking forward to continuing my own education in this world. So to all my clients, family, & friends. Prepárense/prepare yourselves 😂 I love education & expanding my horizons. I love the industry that I work in and being able to work all different people from all walks of lives! Proud to be a hairdresser who wants to keep learning!

Also client’s hair history:
mids to ends was dark red box color & 3 inches of regrowth. I’m glad we took our time to properly do it without putting the hair’s integrity through something harsh. Slow and steady & proper formulation made this so beautiful for this client 🥰

For so long, I thought I had to make it on my own. Now I’m witnessing what happens when the village arrives.

The village isn’t just the people who show up. It’s the way they love you, remind you that you are worthy, and reflect back the truth that you are love. A living reflection of the Divine’s love. They hold a mirror to the light you forget you carry. They often carry that light until you able yet again.

If you’re searching for community, for affinity, for YOUR people, I’ve been there. I know what it feels like to wonder if your village exists. It does.

Despite the storms that come
The sun always returns.

One day you’ll look around and realize the love you’ve been praying for has been making its way toward you all along. You’ll laugh louder, rest deeper, and discover that you were never meant to do this life alone.

I can feel the season changing. The season of the village has begun. And just over the horizon is the season of the sun. This is a season of abundance, expansion, joy, and becoming.

I pray for safe passage.

Here’s to trusting what’s unfolding. Here’s to choosing hope. Here’s to Black queer joy, to community, and to all the beautiful ways love finds us.

From snowy mornings in New York to sunset sessions on the Florida coast, “INTO THE WOODS” is about stepping away from the noise and IMMERSING yourself in YOUR CRAFT.

So far this year we’ve shared ideas, challenged old habits, refined technique, made new friends (reignited with old friends), and spent time with STYLISTS who are SERIOUS about becoming BETTER at what they do.

What a gorgeous and full day of living. Blessings to you all on this eve of Solstice.

We had a great class this morning inside the Helix Training Program, unpacking what the akasha is and receiving great insights during collective channeling practice. After that I was back in the labyrinth at First Congregational Church in Montclair (they hold an open labyrinth walk every Wednesday worth checking out). It’s thanks to Helix I’ve been a minister for almost 20 years now. For healing and celebrations. This one was both—full of ancestor-honoring rituals and energy clearings. The sky caught my eye—eye-gazing: eye-to-eye with the sun and clouds forming a dragon’s eye looking down upon the church.

The bride and bride were both so happy with their wedding. Hope I get some pictures to share. It was an honor to officiate their union in such a sacred sanctuary. Siobhan, the building administrator and wedding coordinator, really knows her stuff — I’m so grateful to work with her and witness how she holds the entire process from rehearsal to completion for the couple.

Made natural soap this afternoon with @liuba.nature.hearted, who also shared a sweet connective ecoNidra. A restorative breathwork offered by @rommyjo completed my self-nurturing on the first anniversary of my father’s transition. I may speak more about this experience tomorrow.

The day ended with me taking seven teenagers to a horror movie at the mall on a Friday night — even being at a packed mall on a Friday night was a first for me. My nervous system was well-grounded and clear. After breathwork, it felt like smooth sailing.

One foot in front of the other and surrender to the flow. I don’t know how else to do all I am assigned to do.
