With daylight savings and longer evenings officially here, it’s a great opportunity to head down to some of Melbourne’s venues with views across the city to catch sunset. From rooftops to floating bars along the Yarra, these are 10 Melbourne venues worth checking out for golden hour. Whether it’s after work drinks, catch up with friends or somewhere to spend a warm evening. Runner Up — A hidden rooftop above Collingwood Yards, bringing together local creatives, forward-thinking DJs and a relaxed weekend atmosphere. Yarra Botanica — A two-level, plant-filled bar with panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline and iconic bridges. A great spot to watch the sun go down over the Yarra. Slowpoke — A retro-inspired rooftop with 360-degree city views and a creative cocktail menu. One to keep in mind for date night or sunset drinks. Ponyfish Island — A Palm Springs-inspired floating bar in the middle of the Yarra River, offering a unique setting for riverside drinks and city views. Naked For Satan — An iconic Fitzroy bar with an industrial feel and rooftop views across the CBD and towards the Dandenong Ranges. Boatbuilders Yard — Located right on the Yarra at South Wharf, with a large outdoor beer garden and plenty of space for a relaxed afternoon that turns into evening drinks. Rooftop at Curtin House — An open-air rooftop on the seventh floor of a historic Art Deco building. A popular spot for after-work drinks, with DJs on weekends. AFLOAT — A seasonal floating bar inspired by European beach clubs, bringing cocktails and a lively atmosphere to the Yarra during the warmer months. The Stolen Gem — A hidden rooftop cocktail bar on the eighth floor, overlooking Bourke Street Mall and the historic GPO building. A good option for drinks with a city view. Johnnys Green Room — A Carlton favourite with a Tuscan-inspired terrace, curated vinyl and a lively atmosphere. Best enjoyed with a few drinks and good company. Find all these venues and more around Melbourne on our live map on LINES app. Download app via link in bio.

The Tattersalls Club Building at 252 Swanston Street was designed by Harry Norris in a Commercial Palazzo style, and built in 1922-23. The Club was associated with horseracing - members included bookmakers, racehorse owners, wealthy punters and racing enthusiasts. On first floor was the main club room, or settling room, where bets were settled. The second floor housed a lounge, smoke room, card rooms, refreshment room and billiards room. The upper floors were let as offices. The building is now known as Curtin House, and is home to an array of cool fashion labels and hospitality venues. On level 3 is @metropolisbookshop_ (where you can pop in and buy our book ‘Melbourne Heritage Interiors’!). Mexican bar and restaurant Mesa Verde is on level 6 (check out the $5 tacos and $10 Margaritas!), and music venue @thetoffintown is on level 2. On the roof is ‘Rooftop Bar’ which sells burgers and overlooks Collins Street’s high rise towers. Despite not being home to the Tattersalls Club for around 90 years, the grandeur of the building’s interior remains. The staircase features walls clad in Buchan marble and colourful leadlight windows. The ornate former Tattersalls clubroom is now occupied by @cookiemelbourne, a popular bar and Thai restaurant which opened in 2003. Cookie’s fitout was designed by architect Phillip Schemnitz. The thing we love about this space is the care the architect took in retaining the beautiful original features of the interior - its high coffered ceilings, extravagant plaster scrolls and brackets, timber dados and even the original safe. The timber blocks from the original parquetry floor, which was beyond repair, were used to clad the bar. The whole concept centres around carefully weaving in a new, contemporary layer of design while retaining the significant elements of the original interior, to create a cool venue with a very eclectic Melbourne vibe. Curtin House and its interior is one of Melbourne’s hidden treasures, and the best way to make sure these places thrive and survive, is to give them your patronage – go check it out! Melbourne heritage, heritage interior, historic interior, architecture, interior design, old buildings, historic building, demolished Melbourne, facadism, heritage architecture, conservation, murals, antique furniture, old shops, history, architectural history, memories of melbourne, women's history, decorative interior, historic restaurant, melbourne dining, secret melbourne, Melbourne history, places to go in Melbourne, dining out in Melbourne, retail history, Melbourne laneways, wine bar, theatre district, pre dinner, cosy bar melbourne, cookie, curtin house, tattersalls club
