Take advantage of these great opportunities to have your work noticed, earn cash, and connect with like-minded creatives. Some of these opportunities are for nonfiction, fiction or poetry, so dust off your rejected manuscripts and submit before the deadlines!

And remember, the question isn’t ‘why me?’ but ‘why not me?”

Follow us for our weekly roundups of rewarding opportunities for creatives.

Poetry is priceless, really.

But if we’re gonna slap a pricetag on it…these payouts are pretty nice.

Big congratulations to previous feature Chimwemwe Undi @chim.undi for becoming the 11th Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate!

Chimwemwe is a poet, writer and editor based on Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her work has appeared in Arc Poetry Magazine, Brick, Border Crossings, Canadian Literature, Canthius, Prairie Fire, Room Magazine, CBC Ideas, BBC World and others, and on stages including the Winnipeg International Writer’s Festival, the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Chimwemwe is the recipient of a 2020 CBC Manitoba Future 40 award, the 2022 John Hirsch Emerging Writer Award from the Manitoba Book Awards, the 2024 University of Manitoba Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Young Alumni and the Mayor’s Winnipeg 150 Medal, among others. She was Winnipeg Poet Laureate for 2023 and 2024. Her debut full-length collection, Scientific Marvel (House of Anansi Press, 2024) won the 2024 Governor General’s Literary Award in Poetry!

In addition to the magick she brings to stages & pages, Chimwemwe also holds an MA in linguistics from York University and practices law in her home province of Manitoba. This deep dance with language & issues of law & justice infuse her poetry—scoop up a copy of Scientific Marvels at @russellbooksvictoria or @munrobooks to experience her syntactical stardust ✨

We’re so grateful to have welcomed Chimwemwe last year during Victorious Voices 🙌🏾 Be on the lookout for this year’s festival details coming your way soon 💃🏾

“I rewrite lines repeatedly, sometimes spending hours thinking about a handful of words.” Yilin Wang The Craft of Translation: Tamara Jong interviews Yilin Wang

So thrilled to interview @yilinwriter for @roommagazine. I’m very grateful to have done this interview for Room. The Lantern and the Night Moths is an amazing collection that I was able to spend time with again and again and it was really special for me to have an opportunity to chat with Yilin about her debut book. Especially since we were both Roomies https://roommagazine.com/whats-new/interview/tamara-jong-interviews-yilin-wang/
