A little appreciation for the Amber behind the camera. Amber Hooper has been capturing SIG for 13 of our 16 years, and her photos have helped put this event on the map. They feature across our posters and promotional material, bringing the exhibition to people far beyond the garden. She comes back time and time again, chasing the right light and getting the shots that show SIG at its best. This year, she’s also the creative brain behind our new branding—from the flags and marquees to the signage, catalogue and website. That’s Amber Hooper, not Amber Norton-Knight… who occasionally gets the credit when people assume there’s only one Amber at SIG! Thank you, Amber, for everything you bring to this event, year after year. You’re the best. Photos and branding: @amber.hooper , @ambercreative

WINNER OF THE $30,000 SCULPTURES IN THE GARDEN & MID-WESTERN REGIONAL COUNCIL PRIZE Congratulations to Mudgee sculptor Michael Ferris, whose work River Bend has taken out this year’s top prize. Head judge Bradley Hammond, Director of Orange Regional Gallery, called it “a real stand-out”. Michael has been exhibiting at SIG for more than a decade, and this year the hometown artist takes home the big one. “It’s a testament to Mudgee and this event that we can have such a great local creative scene. This is a massive honour,” Michael said. River Bend will be acquired for permanent public display on the Lawson Park Sculpture Walk in Mudgee. Thank you to Mid-Western Regional Council for your ongoing support of public art in our region, and to this year’s selection panel: Bradley Hammond, Stephen King OAM, Cameron Anderson, Sam Paine and Rachel Gill.
