Week one of official van life is in the books!! 🚐

I’d be lying if I said we didn’t hit a single snag- we did... like 2.5 hours outside of Vegas.. and again a couple states later; but thankfully we planned well, we know our resources, and are generally pretty adaptable people, so we rolled with it and made some great connections through it. (we’ve got an entire post coming about what we’ve been through since mid-May with unexpected and untimely van repairs that felt like they’d never end and seem to be continuing to pop up and say hi) 🙈

Here’s our takeaway from the week: if it allows us to spend time together it’s an investment, not an expense. So even if some months we trade rent for Sprinter shop diagnostics and a hotel for a night or two, it’s all completely worth it.

Also, @fonduebenoit is perfection and quite literally could not care less about where we are as long as he can physically see us at all times.

Enjoy this little rewind of our first week as vanlifers!

Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir (Breckenridge, Colorado)… gorgeous views, 64 degrees, and completely quiet all night!

Photo taken approximately five minutes before minor snag #2…

(Turns out, the snag was truly a glitch and we remedied it in the parking lot with the help of our trusty Vegas Mercedes GM- who answers Julia’s calls even on Sunday, July 5th at 8am.. because of course he does 😂)

We did it!!! We made our first meal in the van and didn’t burn the place down! And, it was LEGITTTTT 🧨

Making our first van-cooked dinner.. at like midnight: deconstructed vegan burgers on our induction cooktop, fingerling potatoes in the air fryer, and Mexican Cokes. 🍔🥔

We FINALLY made it out to Maple Canyon for some climbing, and clearly Fondue was really stoked about the entire thing.

He’s SO good on his leash and harness, and he has a fully enclosed backpack! So when we climb he’s able to safely be with us, all comfy in the shade, without being a danger to himself or to us. 🐱

Night one in the van:

All of a sudden we couldn’t find Fondue. Anywhere.
The. First. Night.

We had packed the “garage” so precisely, and even installed cat netting to separate the water tank and the electrical
