🎈I chatted to @roseeaston about her homage to Commes des Garçons’ spring 1997 collection, fondly nicknamed ‘lumps and bumps’. Her new show brings together a selection of contemporary artists to riff on the collection. In different ways, Dogperson39, Sarah Benslimane, Sylvie Fleury, Charlotte Kingsnorth and Caitlin MacQueen delve into disturbance and protrusion, experimenting with materials that can’t easily be categorised. As a new mother, watching her body change and grow in ways that can at times feel alien, she felt a renewed kinship with the collection. ‘You become so overtly “woman” that it’s almost perverse,’ she said. ‘Western society still hasn’t quite worked out what to do or how to behave around pregnant mothers… I was fascinated by the ways in which men couldn’t look at me, would avert their gaze and were somewhat horrified by this bulge, this protrusion. Although not the driving force, Rei’s collection and subsequent conversations with the artists were a way in which to navigate this experience.’ Read the full @wallpapermag piece at the link in my bio…

RE in the FT! Ten days before baby Holiday was born, we were photographed in Jan Gatewood’s incredible solo exhibition ‘Internal Empire’.

Thank you to Marine Saint and the FT team for including me in this feature on the next generation of female gallerists in London. Proud to continue the legacy of the brilliant women who have shaped the London art scene I know and love.

The gallery is open with extended hours all weekend on the occasion of London Gallery Weekend. On view are both Jan Gatewood’s ‘Internal Empire’ and Mirak Jamal’s ‘A Guest is a Blessing’, neither are to be missed!
