“How are they going to show up for you?”

For Rose and Angie, this was a question that paved the way for an incredibly supportive and compassionate mentorship. Their ability to lift each other up and foster an environment that cultivates development is a testament to the power of empathy and connection. #LiftHerUp

Rose Junie Abito, LMFT had a vision - to create a space where women of color could come to heal, grow, and lift each other up.

With SimplePractice by her side, she found the perfect partner in Angelica “Angie” Curiel, who shared her passion for creating a safe and inclusive environment. Together, they’re building community that’s changing lives.

Representation matters, especially in the mental health field.

For Rose and Angelica, creating a different kind of practice that embraces diversity and inclusivity was important. They both empathize with the challenge of feeling like outsiders in a predominately white industry and understand mental health is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion is more than just words; it’s a way of life.

This is the photo of therapist Junie Abito that ran in yesterday’s edition of the Long Beach Business Journal (along with one other outtake just cause). She is reflected in a mirror inside her Long Beach office.

Junie Abito, a therapist who specializes in relationships and trauma, graciously sat through this photoshoot with me at her Long Beach office this week. The photo is for a story about how hard it is to find a therapist nowadays, so I wanted to create something somber. These are the photos that are not running:
•••
1. All natural light.
2. Two speedlites: one in front and to the left, the other focused on the wall to eliminate her shadow.
3. One speedlite directly on her right to throw half her face completely in shadow.

We all have big feelings including our littles! It is tempting to label children’s behavior as oppositional, defiant or attention seeking. Emotional regulation involves teaching children to identify their emotions and help them manage those emotions in a safe way. Here are some simple steps to take to hold space for big emotions and understand your child’s needs.

Step 1: A dysregulated adult cannot regulate a dysregulated child. Adults are reminded to accept the emotions and remain regulated instead of control them.

Step 2: Incorporate the triple R’s; regulate, reflect and respond to separate the child’s behavior from emotions.

Step 3: Gentle reminder to give you and your littles compassion and grace. Emotional regulation is about love and care not will power.

Please click in bio or visit us at rosejunietherapy.com for more info about understanding your child needs. Salamat! 🇵🇭✨ -Junie, LMFT
