POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There are quite a few new faces around here lately, so hello 👋🏼 We thought it might be a good time to properly introduce ourselves.

The thing that brings most people here is pretty simple: they really, really love gardens.

They notice them. Photograph them. Want to know what things are. Want to understand why they work. Somehow, the more they learn, the more there seems to be to know.

We see that same curiosity in our students, our graduates, the people who teach them and in so many of you following along too.

So wherever you’ve joined us from, we’re very glad you found us.

It’s been a while... I was just thinking today back to a year ago when I sort of fell into a pool of anthuriums (figuratively that is) and fell deeply in love with these sparkly plants. 🌿
Looking back over the year, it hasn’t been so much the actual plants that have made me happiest, it’s been in meeting and interacting with like minded people who also have this weird love for shiny leaves. 🌿
I’ve spoken to people who understand my hurt and grief and who also relish in others joys when they find a specimen they’ve been chasing for a while. People who just flat out make me laugh. Aaaaand of course, as with any communities (especially niche ones) I’ve come across (in 2020 are we allowed to judge people based solely from their social media accounts? I do🤷🏽‍♀️) the people who are greedy; driving up prices and then reselling for double 🙃🥴. (Today I won’t touch on the illegal imports into Australia, though I will another time). 🌿
I am so so glad that I have been able to get to some @aroidsocietyau meetings and field trips; what terrific gardens we had the privilege of seeing! And stand in very long, hot lines (hello October plant expo) to just end up buying iced tea 😂 🌿
I guess what I am trying to say is that I am grateful. Grateful to have bumped into the things and people I have. I don’t believe that everything happens for a reason, but I do believe that some things happen for a reason. 🌿
Let’s start making informed decisions about where and who our plant buys come from, and remember that what is new and rare now won’t always be... so you should just stick to growing ferns and all will be well in the world. Yep. I think I finished this rambling paragraph off.... quite.... nicely? I don’t know. Happy Friday #plantpals #anthuriumhybrid #anthuriumpallidiflorum #anthuriumcrystallinum
