A little piece of my world in Klein Wêreld.

My work is currently on display as part of the Klein Wêreld exhibition at the Stellenbosch Town Hall during the Stellenbosch Woordfees, from 3–11 October.

With thousands of visitors moving through the festival and an incredible response to the exhibition so far, it’s an honour to have my work included among such a wonderful selection of artists.

If you’re at @woordfees this week, pop into the Stellenbosch Town Hall and take a little time to explore Klein Wêreld.

Thank you to the @wereld_sa team for everything they are doing for South African Artists 🇿🇦

Meet the owner of Round and Round frames, Danélle. She’s been the person responsible for the beautiful artwork at The Workbench. Her passion is to create spaces where people can view art in person, and connect with artists.

The art on our walls will be changing every month, so make sure to keep coming back to see what’s new!

There’s so much that happens before the doors open at a Kamers show… ✨
From packing, planning, setting up and all the little details in between, there’s a lot of hard work that goes into getting ready. But honestly, some of our favourite moments happen behind the scenes. 🤍

It’s the time spent with our fellow co-makers sharing stories, helping each other, having a few laughs, and celebrating the journey together. There’s something so special about being surrounded by people who understand the passion, dedication and love that goes into making something by hand.

And then, of course, there’s the best part connecting with our wonderful clients, meeting new faces, catching up with familiar ones and sharing the stories behind what we make.

Because Kamers is about so much more than a show. It’s about community, connection, creativity and the people who make it all worthwhile. 🫶

The lovely Danelle from @roundandround_frames asked if I could create something similar to my embroidery doodles for her beautiful frames… a lekker challenge!

And so, the ‘textile scrabbles’ came to be.
Each one is made from different fabrics and paired with a note - a little nudge to see things differently or a quirky acknowledgment of how things are.

I love making work that makes people a smile, but also leaves something behind. A feeling. A reminder.
- you’re human. slow down. stay soft. breathe. -

I’m thankful that these works, together with their sister embroidery doodles, have become little points of connection. It warms my heart to see people pause, feel seen, laugh, and say, “Ah, I needed to see this today!”

Perhaps that’s what I love most about art: that something I make in my own little corner of the world can find its way into someone else’s and mean something to them.

These works are all for sale at @kamersmakers happening in Pretoria this weekend!

I have always been fascinated by the wisdom our hands hold, the strength of young hands, the creases and folds of old hands, and the journey of our lives in the marks on our hands.

“If you look deeply into the palm of your hand,
you will see your parents and
all generations of your ancestors.
All of them are alive in this moment.
Each is present in your body.
You are the continuation of each of these people.”

Thich Nhat Hanh
