How we feel with only two shows left 😭 “To say this production bursts into life is an understatement. It is fast. It is furious. It is funny. It may also shock … just as the first iteration of Tartuffe shocked the Archbishop of Paris in 1664. But it will also entertain, amuse and divert! And, oh my, do we need diversions at the moment!“ @stage_whispers Limited tix left! Grab yours at the link in bio 🔗

Molière‘s original Tartuffe shocked the Archbishop of Paris in 1664 - and was swiftly banned. Phillip James Rouse has brought it back in 2026 with his absolutely bonkers and equally scandalous adaptation, this time asking the question: what would you do if someone you loved was been scammed? In true comedic fashion, it takes wild & hilarious antics to get there TARTUFFE by Phillip James Rouse (after Molière) 🎈 Must close Oct 17! 🎟️ ADULT $50 🎟️ CONCESSION $40 More info & to book at the link in our bio

Fraud. Inheritance. Sex. Grief. Balloons. Bodily functions. People making catastrophically bad decisions at full volume. Phillip James Rouse looked at Molière and apparently thought: what if we just completely lost our fucking minds? Correct choice. “It makes a man wanna shit.” No further notes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There is subtle farce, and then there is Tartuffe. Phillip James Rouse’s adaptation of Molière is completely, gloriously unhinged — vulgar, physical, ridiculous and performed with the kind of absolute commitment that makes escalating absurdity look effortless. From literally the opening line, the production announces exactly what kind of evening this is going to be. And somehow it only gets more chaotic from there. Julian Garner’s Tartuffe sits at the centre of the madness, while Deborah Galanos, Lucy Miller, Annie Byron, Travis Howard, Dominique Purdue, Will Thomas and Tamara Lee Bailey build a family whose dysfunction keeps expanding until the entire thing feels perpetually seconds away from bursting. That sense of excess is carried through the production itself. Anna Gardiner’s costumes embrace the heightened world, Richard Whitehouse’s lighting keeps pace with its tonal shifts, and Matty James’ sound helps drive the relentless comic rhythm. And then there are the balloons. Bright, ridiculous and impossible to ignore, they visualise the production’s strongest idea - this world looks enormous and solid while remaining surprisingly vulnerable to pressure. Underneath all the filth, chaos and spectacularly inappropriate behaviour, Rouse has built a production about people trying to protect a family from someone who knows exactly how to exploit its weaknesses. The farce never gets sacrificed for the idea. The idea emerges because the farce is so completely committed. Wild, filthy, intelligent and very, very funny. It's so good it makes a man want to shit. #Theatreflections #Tartuffe #KXTonBroadway #moliere #5U55
