Occupying Arla.

Arla is Europe's largest dairy distributor. @animal_rebellion and @extinctionrebellion marched from Bloomfield Park to the dairy company, where earlier in the week, banners were dropped with a messages "Animal Rebellion" and "Ditch Dairy". We need to address the climate emergency by resolving the animal emergency (agriculture, farming), transitioning to a sustainable plant-based food system which needs to be in place soon. The government should be taking steps towards this and help will be provided every step of the way; e.g. converting dairy farms to alternative milk farms fruits/vegetable enterprises, migrating cows to sanctuaries, implementing policies that subsidize plant based products, etc.)
Today's activities: street block party, music, dancing, speakers, food, block printing, chalking, etc. This is a family-friendly event.

Peace and love ✌️ #plantbasedfoodsystem #occupyarla #animalrebellion🏴 #animalrebellionlondon #extinctionrebellion

What were the circumstances surrounding Jill's death? In late '94, public outcry over major passenger ferry companies carrying live animals to Europe led to exporters relying on smaller ports such as Brightlingsea and Shoreham-by-Sea, and flying animals out of Coventry Airport where Jill was killed.

1500 police were brought in from the London and Surrey forces at one point to deal with the staggering scale of AR protests. Officers lined the harbour near Brighton with a mile and a half of riot vans and buses. An estimated 4000 people, half the population of the town of Brightlingsea came out to demonstrate during that time.

Over 170 convoys of animals to be exported were driven through Brightlingsea during the campaign, resulting in £2.25 million in extra policing.

Shoreham, where windscreens of lorries carrying animals were smashed by activists was described by a spokesperson for Respect for Animals as a "gateway to hell". Jill's killer wasn't convicted as there was "no evidence" and the judge ruled accidental death. Jill's family blame the police as they were determined to allow the lorries carrying calves in to the airport despite such heavy protests.

She left behind a young son and a legacy we will never forget. 📷 @joshua.entis
