Gaston

🐾 Meet Gaston, our August Dog of the Month!

How did August slip away from us? If you’ve spent time at Alta Plaza Park, chances are you’ve seen Gaston. This social butterfly loves playing with everyone, makes three trips to the park every day, and is impossible to miss with his fabulous David Bowie haircut. ✨

He’s also a neighborhood rescue, adopted from Pets Unlimited back when it was right here in the neighborhood. 💚

His only problem? Every blade of grass on his walk needs to be thoroughly inspected. 🌱😂

Special thanks to our dog of the month partner @rowdyandarchie for generously providing gift certificates to our monthly winners!

Congratulations, Gaston! We’re so happy to celebrate this sweet guy and beloved member of the Alta Plaza community. 🐶

🐾 MEET SOPHIE, OUR DOG OF THE MONTH! 🐾

Sophie is an Alta Plaza regular with her priorities firmly in order:

🧈 Favorite food: Butter. (Excellent choice.)
🌳 Favorite pastime: Chewing on sticks
😎 Personality: So. Very. Chill.

Sophie was adopted from a rescue in Los Angeles eight years ago and has been living the good life ever since. These days, she can often be found enjoying Alta Plaza Park—taking in the scenery, finding the perfect stick and generally not getting too worked up about anything.

As always, thank you @rowdyandarchie for your generous support of Alta Plaza’sDog of the Month, celebrating our robust dog community!

Congratulations, Sophie! 💚🐶

🎾 NEW-AGAIN COURTS AT ALTA PLAZA!

The two tennis courts at Alta Plaza Park have been completely resurfaced, thanks to a major grant from San Franciscans for Sports and Recreation and additional funding from Friends of Alta Plaza Park.

Come celebrate with us! 🎉
Sunday, September 20 | 10 AM–12 PM

Bring the kids — there will be soft-tip archery, corn hole games, other activities, plus food and beverages.

The celebration will also include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring Helen Wills Moody, the legendary tennis champion who played on the Alta Plaza courts and won 19 Grand Slam singles titles, including eight at Wimbledon. 🎾 Also a short presentation by SF Recreation and Parks President Kat Anderson and D2 Supervisor Stephen Sherrill.

We hope to see you there! 💙

At 11 years young, Tyson continues to charm everyone around him with his calm personality and one-of-a-kind quirks. From sitting like a cat while he eats to happily rolling in the grass, he’s proof that age only adds to the character. 💚

🐾 Meet Franklin, our June Dog of the Month—yes we are behind!

This year-old Bernadoodle is smart, easy to train, and always ready to learn. In fact, Franklin was training to become a therapy dog when he was nominated. 💙

His one little weakness? Stealing socks whenever he gets the chance! 🧦😅

Congratulations, Franklin! We’re so happy to celebrate this clever pup. 💚

Buddy’s favorite Neighborhood Places 🐾 #2: Rowdy & Archie Pet Store

I could find my way to Rowdy & Archie without my mom. Just follow my nose and it’ll lead me straight to the front door, because I know exactly what waits for me inside: endless pets, tasty treats, and humans who make me feel like the king that I am.

Mom always says she’s “just running in for poop bags.” Yeah, right. Like she could ever say no to this face. I don’t want poop bags, woman—I want treatzzz! Many treatzzz.

This place has another special spot in my heart because it’s where my mom’s artwork lives too—her stickers and greeting cards, all inspired by yours truly… ME, the one and only: Buddy Boy

So if your pupper hasn’t visited yet, consider this your official invitation. Stop by, say hi, collect all the pets and treats you can handle, and don’t forget to tell them Buddy sent you. 🐾❤️

Meet Rowdy.

Missouri rescue. Professional couch potato. Local celebrity.

He’s lived in three states, flown on an airplane, watched his family grow from one human to five, and these days spends his time perfecting the art of napping and looking for snacks.

You may know him already—he’s the Rowdy in Rowdy & Archie Pet Store. Fame hasn’t changed him, though. He’s still mostly motivated by snacks, naps, and greeting visitors with a stuffed animal in his mouth.

He loves people, has opinions about other dogs, and firmly believes every treat belongs to him.

This sweet boy is a local celebrity and just a really good boy 🐾⚡️

Yes, you know him. He brings the Archie to Rowdy and Archie Pet Store. 🐶🐶

Archie is equal parts stubborn, dramatic, and deeply committed to his donut toy collection. His emotional support donut stuffy is absolutely non-negotiable… and please don’t expose the fact that he still sucks on it like a pacifier and needs it to sleep.

Archie hates the mailman — and don’t even get him started with the UPS guy. This boy may have a small body, but he has huge opinions and absolutely loves picking fights with dogs twice his size.

This sweet boy is currently navigating the complicated journey of becoming a big brother: protective one minute, jealous the next, still figuring out how to share the attention that once belonged only to him.

Archie may be tiny, but his spirit is not.

Meet this Kentucky rescue 🤎 CHARLIE

Food motivated? Deeply.
Professional snuggler? Absolutely.
Stubborn? Without question.

Will howl for good news, bad news, snacks, attention and emotional support, or sometimes for reasons still unknown.
He walks at his own pace, and nothing in this world rushes him. If you see him around Alta Plaza Park, don’t forget to say hi ✨
