Tracy Turpen at Graceland. May 16, 2010

She passed away 14 years ago today. I miss her.

Tracy Turpen was a wedding photographer and I spent the first year of my career standing by her side and learning from her magical ways. It was a year that transformed my life and set me on the path I am still walking. After every shoot with her, I’d come home and teach Dan everything I learned. At the end of the year, Dan and I photographed our first wedding as Bethany and Dan Photography.

To this day, there are photos that I still chase, that came from her mind. I have a folder on my hard drive of screenshots from her website after she passed. I needed to keep those photos for my forever. Im so glad I did because the website is gone now. She was fearless and unhinged. The photos she took were real, honest, and bold. I admired her tenacity. For a long time I asked myself, “What would Tracy do,” whenever I needed a new take on something. I think people thought she was odd when we were at weddings. She had that DGAF attitude that photographers really do need sometimes. Something I work on at every single shoot to this day.

Turned the camera around and was reminded what a vulnerable space it can be to have your picture taken. So grateful for everyone who has ever entrusted me to do so 💛 #homestudio #selfportrait

✨ Nicaragua is such a beautiful country. I’ll always be grateful my girlfriend asked me to be a bridesmaid. It was so much fun! This was pre-kids, when she was the first to get married in our friend group. 💍 What a magical time in our lives, so full of wonder and expectations. We may be friends at a distance now, but the bond is still there. Chosen family forever. ❤️

Even on Saturdays, our Pre-K from home is full of adventures: play, discovery, and sweet surprises like seeing an old friend. The learning is everywhere. 💛

girl on fire⚡️🔥💋 @skylargudasz @rollingstone 🫶 her album COUNTRY has been released, and it’s all things gorgeous, lyrical and soulful- aka a mirror to her. I went back and selected some faves from our shoot this day- all made with in-camera effects. which slide is your favorite?

*also the video highlighted in this article is one she made with her crew on the outer banks - it is stunning and absolutely worthy of a watch!

Lionsgate over the years for me.

Travels. Meeting and marrying the man of my dreams. Baby shower for my dream baby being a mama to 🐝.

And spending time with my beloveds.

888 portals and celebrating it knowing or unknowingly (baby shower on Lionsgate portal was definitely intentional).

Everything’s pure magic surrounding this time! I can say as a Leo Moon! And @beyondtheveil_tarot_and_astro keeps me real straight on what it means to hold so a powerful moon!

Happy continuous Lionsgate portal to all.

Super excited about what else is yet to come as we continue to trust God. 😍

Crafting handmade bandanas from natural fibers! I made some a few years ago before a trip to the Caribbean (pictured here by a fort in the Bahamas), to protect that décolleté!
