“Here, the pine tree isn’t a mere motif: it is a bearer of heritage, and a silent witness to centuries of movement, adaptation, and endurance.
For Halaby, it becomes an emblem of a dual identity
that’s not split, but enhanced. Like the pine tree, the artist spreads upwards and out, reaching out to his origins in the Levant.
In some of his writings, Halaby describes trees as sentinels and as archivists of silence. In this exhibition, his canvases echo the same breath.
Ultimately, the story he tells us is not about exile nor
return. It is about expanding and carrying more than one landscape within oneself. Like the pine tree, Halaby is not a transplanted entity to Italy, but a bridge between cultures.”
