/* Tyranny of Type */* • • • >>> Sound On 💿 🔊 You the tyrant have silenced the voice, the writer and the author. From whence the scribe took note, point to line, to mark with mind and body, we are here today tapping words amidst a plethora of devices and automata. Stripped of person, encoded in strict form and laid out through ideology and rule. It is my intent, to eschew common ground, for it is here it seems most are content to comply. And it is here too that the machines have camped amongst the crowd. A paperback anthology of Avocado Ibuprofen’s popular Instagram illustrated stories divests them of images, leaving an accomplished literary portrait in 122 chapters of a corrupted artworld. But beyond the witty tirades and the (mostly) entertaining sniping, writes Ben Eastham, is a curiously old-fashioned and earnest faith in the value of art and literature. 🎙️ This Saturday at @artverseparis gallery, we discovered the world of @patricktresset and @celine.shen_official around this duo artist talk. Discussing about art, technology and human kind. Where do our souls belong into today’s technological world ? Céline Shen presented her Robot Journal performance to the public. Combining, the body, the voice and the technology to transport you into another universe. Patrick Tresset signed his book with @rroseeditions "Skediama & Nous / Skediama & Us"

Last weekend @180.studios / @offprint_projects presented Relic, a project by @rroseeditions and myself - a multi-analogue fax machine installation that prints book pages live. Fax machines themselves are relics, possible technofossils - man-made objects that become part of Earth’s future geological record. The thermal prints were used to produce a collective artists’ book. This limited edition is published (and available) by @rroseeditions. Work made by participating artists Adam Basanta @adambasanta, Santiago Martinez Benedetti @santiagezmartino, Antony Cairns @antony_cairns, Susan Collins @susanalexisrandoms, Stewart Hardie @stewarthardie, Julie F Hill @juliefhill, Aspen Mays @aspenmays, Marcel Schwittlick @schwittlick, Travess Smalley @travess, Clare Strand @strandclare, Jaime Sebastian Vera @jaimesebas, Corinne Vionnet @co_vionnet and NASA Archive Mars 2020 @nasa relates to photography, technological relics or image transmission, making the installation and the book meta. The book hosts a conversation between the artists’ work and my own, a loose communication structure created through conceptual sentences, thoughts and reciprocal communication. Thank you to Yannick and Tarek (who were crazy enough) for making this happen and to all my trimmer and collator helpers @rahel.zoller, @santiagezmartino, @aspenmays and @georgia_metaxas for making the book an actual object and not a likely thought!

📚After many twists and turns a book of collected writing from this account is finally here!📖📖📖📖 While it's clear that a book can never be a complete documentation of all the intricacies of a multi-year online body of work, it feels important for me to preserve some of this material in a form that is less shifty and temporary than an Instagram account. A mental image of a mosquito full of dinosaur blood that's been trapped inside an orb of solidified AMBER comes up.  A question I've been thinking of during years of writing texts for online consumption is one of literature. Is this a literary endeavor? Rewriting, editing and laying the texts out in book form is not necessarily an answer to this question, but a solidification of the open question itself. It seems clear to me that while the texts lost their metadata and interactivity as posts, they also gained something entirely new from the emptiness of the page. This is the first book that I've written, edited, illustrated, designed and typeset myself. There's a kind of idiosyncratic clunkiness to the book as a result, and an intriguing sense of sovereignty for me as its author-designer.  🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹The original idea and impulse to make a book of this account that foregoes most of the imagery and places the emphasis on the text came from book designer @oottttoohheennrriikk , thank you for that! & of course thank you @rroseeditions for taking a chance on this book! & thank you to @herttakiiski for letting me use my photographs of your photographs on the covers. & my gratitude to @raimundas_malasauskas for the astute blurb on the back cover. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 🌞 HELSINKI: There will be a book launch for the book @p1tted_dates on Sunday April 19th. Stay tuned for more information! 🚬 EVERYONE: The book is now available to order in the RRose Editions webshop. It's a small edition so don't hesitate for too long. 🤠 AMERICANS: Because shipping from EU to US has become a real mess as a result of the tariffs and general rise of costs, I am looking for some kind of publishing venture to make a US edition of this book. Just to say that I'm looking for a way to do this!
