POV: you capture July bookclub on your £30 camcorder 📹

A little snippet of the shenanigans at last month’s Lit to the Tit, as you can tell by the clips, we’re a really serious bookclub !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely zero laughs or gegs !!!! We keep things v tame 👅

That £30 camcorder has followed me everywhere this year 🥹 I first bought it for my NYC trip last November and had so much fun with it, that I decided to be really intentional this year and record all happy moments / trips / events with it 🥰

And FUN, HAPPY moments have been had 😆 I hope yous enjoy watching this video as much as we we enjoyed the night and I enjoyed editing it ❣️

🌼July Bookclub Yesteryear discussion🌾

We had SUCH a fun time during the Yesteryear book discussion last Wednesday night !!!!!!!! There was SO MUCH to unpack with the plot of Yesteryear, the characters and the message 💭 it was also @cathmcq ‘s first time hosting a Lit to the Tit book discussion and she was CLASS - petition to get her to do it more often pls !!!! 💘

Here’s just some of the topics we discussed 🗯️
🌼 Do we actually need to like a protagonist to love a book?
🌼 What’s worse an unlikeable female character or a boring one?
🌼 When people say they “hated” Natalie, do they actually mean Caro Claire Burke wrote her brilliantly?
🌼 If Natalie was a Nathan, would readers react differently?
🌼 Why are difficult men “complex” but difficult women are described a lot worse in literature and beyond?
🌼 What was Caro Claire Burke trying to warn us & comparisons to Black Mirror episodes
🌼 Tradwives & performance, and performance on social media in general
🌼 Can we feel sorry for someone and still hold them accountable?
🌼 THE ENDING

As a collective we agreed that YASteryear was a solid 4 ⭐️ read (I personally gave it 4.5 ⭐️)

If you loved the themes of Yesteryear and want more unlikeable women, tradwife satire, messy motherhood, performance, perfection and women making terrible decisions here is a list of secondary sources to save for inspo 💡 or a helpful AVOID list if you hated it 👅

📚
Unlikeable Female Characters by Anna Bogutskaya
Yellowface by R.F Kuang
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan
The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers
Everyone is Lying to You by Jo Piazza
Kindred by Octavia E. Butler
Trad Wife by Saratoga Shaefer
The Husbands by Holly Gramazio
Followers by Megan Angelo
People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd
The Compound by Aisling Rawle

Thank you to @framedbycore / @andecorostudios for capturing the laughs, craic and the girlies pondering thoughts during the Yesteryear discussion 📸

✨Lit to the Tit July Books of the Month✨

Back once again with two books of the month to choose from, spoilt for choice 👅

Are you a spoOooOoky girlie that celebrates Summerween ?? 🎃👻 or maybe IG tradwife meets Shutter Island vibes is more your bag ??? 🤠

Here’s our 2 Book of the Month picks 📚

💀 The Devouring by @rs_cunningham

Suspenseful, twist-driven, and unflinching. The Devouring is an Irish psychological horror that creeps under your skin and refuses to let go.
Under the glow of fairy lights in a quiet belfast suburb, a group of women gather for what should be a harmless autumn evening of ghost stories. But some stories aren’t told…. They’re unleashed.

A haunting supernatural thriller that lingers long after the final page.

AND Author @rs_cunningham is joining us at our July meet up for a special Q&A ✍🏽 hosted by @bookish_belfast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next up, Book #2

🧑‍🌾 Yesteryear by @caroclaireburke

An American tradwife’s immaculate Instagram presence unravels in the most unexpected way in this addictive and utterly unpredictable firecracker of a debut that shatters the mirror of influencer culture !!!!

*flew through this in May and LOVED IT (although I did finish the last 30 mins after sharing 3 bottles of wine and will need to relisten before the meet up 😆) Yesteryear book discussion will be hosted by our very own @farheenrx_ and @cathmcq !!!! Can’t wait ♥️

So there we have it; our July books !!!! Read one or both if you’re feeling hardcore 👅 OR NEITHER if you just come to bookclub for the vibes !!!!! You’re welcome either way 💃🏽

Just 4 spots left for our July meet up and can be snapped up through the link in our bio 🔗 🎟️ SEE YIZ ON THE 22ND !!!!!!! XXXXXXYZ
