Our residents at Goodwin Village Ainslie have been baking up a storm! Cupcakes, cookies, slices & dog biscuits were on the menu today for a resident-led RSPCA ACT #CupcakeDay fundraiser.

With residents Gerry and Fay leading the charge (and everyone getting into the spirit with fabulous masks), the Ainslie community raised a whopping $1,471.55 for the RSPCA! 🐾🎉

A huge congratulations to Gerry, Fay and everyone who baked, helped or stopped by to support the cause. Our furry friends thank you! 💜

POV: you were sick one heat wave so now you’ve conned your way into cold tube treats every hot day

Tiger had an awful time one exceptionally hot day so now he gets cold treats to help cool him down every hot day 🥵
His favourite is noticeably when we have cold beef tube treats! (That being said he’s not exactly too picky 😅)
You can tell in the video how much he LOVES getting a tube treat, he even lets the cameras be up close and personal!

Here’s an example of NSW’s “tough” animal welfare and protection laws for other-than-human animals. These hens have been exploited for eggs. Many are dead with survivors desperately clinging to life. The footage shows no feed, no water, no relief, no one watching or intervening. The environment is reflective of a graveyard completely littered with skeletal remains and feathers, where every human footstep echoes the sound of broken bodies underfoot.

Behind every layer of the egg farming production chain lays suffering and cruelty whether its caged hens or free-range. The hens, male chicks deemed ‘wastage’, the environment and consumers all pay the price. While the Minns/Moriarty Labor Government continues to prop-up intensive animal agriculture, millions of individual sentient beings continue to suffer cruelty, exploitation, abuse, neglect and death. While the Minns/Moriarty Labor Government continues to support an “Agriculture” portfolio entrenched with serious conflicts of interest between agriculture and animal welfare, millions of animals continue to suffer and the NSW Food Authority fails consumers.

It is these very environments, hidden from public view, that harbour abject animal misery, disease and zoonotic disease. Where’s the animal “welfare” and where’s the “regulation”? It’s these environments that produce the boxed and cling-wrapped products designed to mislead consumers.

These hens deserve justice. Those responsible including the “regulators” need to be held to account. Demand urgent amendments to the NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Enforcement and Operational Powers) Bill 2026. Changing your mind is hard.
Speaking out against an organisation you’ve been part of is harder still.
Doing it when you’re pushing back against mainstream culture, powerful industry interests and the status quo takes real courage.

Huge respect to Mark Steele, who has stepped down as a director of #rspcansw and publicly said that the welfare standards attached to RSPCA Certified chicken are simply not good enough.

I have a complicated relationship with the #rspca. I absolutely acknowledge the incredibly important work they do in many areas for animals and the people who dedicate their lives to that work.

But I also believe we have to be able to hold organisations we respect accountable.

For years, welfare labels have reassured Australian consumers that the animal products they are buying are “humane”. When the reality behind those labels falls so far short of what an ordinary person would imagine that word to mean, we need to talk about it.

That kind of humane-washing matters. It allows good people to keep participating in systems they might otherwise question because they genuinely believe someone they trust has checked and said, “This is okay.”

Sometimes advocacy is about standing outside a system and demanding change.

And sometimes it is someone who has been inside the system having the courage to step away and say, loudly:

This isn’t good enough. I won’t put my name to it anymore.

Shout-out to Mark Steele for doing exactly that.
