POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

People tell you so much bad stuff about midlife, but with my 47th birthday around the corner, let me tell you the things I’m loving so far:

1. Learning and using the word “No.”
2. Understanding and implementing boundaries.
3. You know how to learn and remember life’s lessons.
4. You don’t fear on missing out on anything. Cancelled plans are my jam!
5. You have a body of work to go back through every time you feel “stuck” in your career to remind you how far you’ve come.

And that’s one of the best things about your 40s— you know who you are and unlike in your adolescent years, you actually enjoy who you are…still becoming.

What have the years taught you about embracing life and yourself? Let me know in comments!

So good we had to run this one back!

We’re revisiting a powerful conversation with leadership strategist and Uncompete author Ruchika T. Malhotra—and it is exactly the reminder we need when somebody else’s win has you questioning your own path.

Feeling jealous doesn’t make you a bad friend, ungrateful, or petty. It makes you human.

The next time you feel that comparison spiral coming on, pause and ask yourself:

Is this something I actually want?
Why do I want it?
Am I willing to embrace the process it would take to get there?

Your envy may not be a sign that you’re behind—it may be information pointing you toward what you truly want.

Such a fantastic dinner last night with two South Asian badass authors that my faith in humanity was restored.

Or should I say my faith in women of color was fortified?

So great to meet @rtulshyan @punitarice IRL, as the kids would say.

Go buy their books now!

Once a month, Dan and I try to go on a different kind of date.

Not just dinner. Not just a movie. Something that gets us out of our normal environment and into a new one.

Something that sparks curiosity.
Introduces us to new people.
Challenges the way we think.
Gives us different perspectives.
And leaves us a little more enriched than when we arrived.

This weekend, that was TEDx Issaquah.

Eight thoughtful talks. Eight different perspectives. Ideas that made us pause, question, think deeper, and have conversations we probably wouldn’t have had otherwise.

And there’s something else I love about events like this: community.

There is value in simply showing up. Listening. Applauding. Supporting someone’s idea. Being willing to sit beside people you may never have otherwise met and hear what matters to them.

It takes courage to stand in front of your community and speak about something you believe matters.

So I think one of the best ways we can give back is simply to be there. Show up. Be curious. Support people. Celebrate ideas. Be part of the room.

These are some of my favorite dates with Daniel—not because of where we go, but because of what we bring home with us:

new ideas, deeper conversations, and a little more curiosity about the world around us.

So go somewhere you don’t normally go.
Talk to someone you don’t normally meet.
Listen to an idea you didn’t expect.

Be curious. Be present. Be enriched.

You never know what might change the way you see something.

When we started planning this party a mere 3 weeks ago (!!), I thought this was an Armoire party. I have no words to express my gratitude for where we ended up.

More than 20 local businesses, mostly women, queer and/or BIPOC owned, came together to make this night happen. You know that after 10 years, this is the best gift I could possibly have hoped for.

Armoire is behind, within and a part of this formidable community. These business owners have been the glue behind our success. They’ve stretched to fuel us. They’ve worked to promote us. They’ve reached into their own pockets to support us. They’ve believed in us and shown up for us, over and over again.

What a rich life @armoire.style is living. Rich in friendship, support and love. Rich in community, action and positive outcomes.

See you tonight. I can’t wait to hug you in person and share this little world we’re so happy to exist in 💜

What if some of the rules you’ve spent your life following were never really yours?

Author and inclusion strategist Ruchika T. Malhotra has spent years questioning something most of us rarely stop to examine.

Now she’s bringing that question to the TEDxIssaquah stage.

See Ruchika at Roots & Rise.
