POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Sorry for the radio silence guys, worked a long shift at work yesterday and barely got to watch any fights live. Thank god for that actually, because some of that officiating would’ve irritated me even more.

Haven’t watched every bout yet, but seen a good number from both sessions.

Firstly, some positives.

Sürmeneli looks pretty damn good at 70kg, doesn’t she? Women’s 70kg looks interesting heading into the semis too. The future at 55kg looks exciting on the World stage - Rogozin and Burton, mixed in with many others from different continents. O’Rourke vs Kaczmarska was a fantastic watch.

It’s mad how good Batlaev is, for me, the best at 50kg, yet he was completely shown levels by Dusmatov in Dubai last year, despite Dusmatov being towards the latter stages of his career. Every time I watch Ismail Umar, he impresses me more.

Now, the officiating…

What the fuck was the judging in Bennama vs Mammadzada? R1 only 3-2 to Bennama? Then Mammadzada gets R2 4-1 despite not landing more scoring shots and despite getting picked off for the final 90 seconds. And I thought he was lucky not to lose a point in R3 for some of the antics.

Okoh vs Lebowski was another strange one. Before the “you’re only saying that because you’re English” comments, check my page. I had Okoh R1, Lebowski R2, Okoh R3. With the deduction (harsh), that should’ve gone to a tie-break. Instead, R3 was 3-2 Lebowski. Not sure how they got there, but because fewer than three judges had it level, the German gets it.

Shiha vs Abdullayev had me questioning reality when I saw the scores. Abdullayev got R1 3-2 despite being comfortably outlanded and, for me, clearly outboxed. Close fight? Yes. Deserved winner? No.

Same with White vs Akbas: White R1, Akbas R2, White R3 for me. She outlanded Akbas and finished stronger, yet Akbas got it.

Aliyev vs Hasanov was close, but R2 being 3-2 Aliyev confused me because I thought he won it clearly. Mamedov vs Szaka? Thought Szaka was unlucky live; watched it again and still feel that way, although I can see the case for Mamedov.

Anyway, plenty of fantastic performances and bouts. Just a shame the inconsistencies in the officiating continue to overshadow them.
