#🐾 Occhi’s training journey — Day 1 with Holley 🐾

Well… Occhi’s first session with Holley went off with a bang! 😂🚓🚒

She turned up for a nice, calm one-to-one training session to work on her confidence.

The universe said: “How about police cars, fire engines, sirens and general mayhem instead?” 😂

And actually… it was PERFECT.

Occhi is a naturally nervous, hyper-alert girl, so we’re working on building her confidence and helping her learn that all the sights, sounds and madness of the outside world aren’t something she needs to be scared of.

There was A LOT going on, and she took it all in. 👀🐕

Was she completely unfazed? Absolutely not. 😂
Did she cope far better than she would have done before? YES! ❤️

And judging by this photo, I think she may have been considering a career change…

“Occhi, future police dog?” 🚓🐕‍🦺

Well, let’s not get carried away. She still has to work on walking past a bin without looking suspicious. 😂

But seriously, I’m so proud of her. Every little step forward matters, and watching her confidence slowly grow is exactly why we’re on this journey. ❤️

One session at a time. One scary thing at a time. One confident Occhi at a time. 🐾

What does a dog trainer do on a day off? Apparently, go and visit another dog trainer 😅

We took a trip over to Ruff Dog Training in Somerton this week with Moon and her housemate, and it turned out to be the perfect bit of socialisation. New environment, horses grazing close by, agility equipment to investigate (she aced going through the tunnel), and an awful lot of exciting new smells to work through. On top of that another little person all very exciting. A proper snuffle and run around, exactly what a young HPR needs.

This is exactly why socialisation isn’t just about meeting lots of dogs, it’s about calm, positive exposure to new places, sounds, sights and experiences. A new venue with novel things to see and sniff does more for a growing puppy’s confidence than people often realise, especially with a familiar face by her side for reassurance.

And yes, it turns out our version of a relaxing day off is still very much dog related. We wouldn’t have it any other way. 🐾

Holley summed up exactly what MBR is in this clip - a concentration camp for dogs 💔

Bred purely to be tested on and then killed, if they don’t die from the tests already.

They will never see the beautiful countryside they live alongside, and the testing aside for a second - the facility they live in is not humane. They have to drink from giant water bottles, the type used by rabbits, gerbils etc - that is not the way dogs naturally drink.

And last Saturday when I was there to join the protest outside the gate, it was swelteringly hot, and this week has been even hotter. The staff leave early because it is too hot inside the sheds, but the dogs must stay there.

There is so much wrong with all of this. Please add your voice to the campaign to #freethembrbeagles Change can happen, as it just has in the US, but more people need to stand up and say it. 🙏

If only they knew how much they are loved 💔

This is a hard watch but I beg you, please don’t look away 🙏

On Sunday I went to a protest for the first time.
Inside this concrete concentration camp there are hundreds of Beagle puppies and their mothers. They will never see daylight, they will never see grass and in this current heatwave they are only checked on once or twice a day whilst their tin sheds heat up to unbearable temperatures.

The pups exist purely to be tested on, in a variety of barbaric ways, and if they don’t die from that they will be killed anyway.

In no other animal keeping capacity would conditions like this be remotely legal, yet unbelievably here it is allowed.

Whilst walking the fence line we witnessed a ‘security dog’ being kept inside a car inside the camp when temperatures were around 30 degrees outside. Security were spoken to by the police present about this and told it was not allowed to be kept in the car.

Many people don’t realise animal testing still exists 🥺

Following years of protests and a legal settlement, Ridglan Farms in the US - another breeding facility- recently agreed to surrender its breeding license, and its dogs are currently being transferred to rescues.

If that can happen there, it can happen here too but not without our help. Here are three easy things you can do to help:

1.
Download the Cruelty Cutter App and boycott the brands out there who are in your kitchen cupboards, makeup kits and beauty products who are still involved in animal testing - there are loads, you will honestly be shocked by how many but there are alternatives to all of them. Please swop to those.

2.
Follow @thecampbeagle @savethedogsuk @free_the_mbr_beagles and others campaigning to close places like this down and visit their websites to understand exactly what MBR Acres is and why there is no need for such a facility to exist in this day and age. Sign the open letter on the Save the Dogs website whilst you are there too ✍️

3.
I know it can be hard to share content like this, but please share the MBR Beagles story to raise awareness. They have no voice, but we do. 💔💪 Thank you 🫂
