The first photos left on my phone from the first weeks of shooting with the Savannah Bananas and their Banana ball journey in 2022. On that first day I hopped in a car with @yellowtuxjesse and he predicted/manifested everything that would unfold over the next 5 years. I knew right then that he was right. It all happened even faster than he predicted (yes, you’ll see that in the movie). When that season ended I knew I had to keep shooting. Do, I did. What a journey

In 2021 we made a short about the Savannah Bananas for SportsCenter. That led to a series about the first multi city Banana Ball tour ; Bananaland. Then we did a series about the second tour. Then we kept shooting so that we could make a movie. we are making that movie. It premieres at Truist Stadium in Atlanta in June with all six teams at the party - get on the lottery list at Bananaball.com

We’ve been documenting Banana Ball since the first multi city tour in 2022. For the first two years it was the @thesavbananas versus the @thepartyanimals and it’s been a dogfight. The Party Animals won the last game that first year and went on a nine game run in season 2 to win the series in Cooperstown-. The party animals won the first tournament last year. The way the rules are structured with a point system through eight innings, and every run counting in the last inning has meant that almost every game is electric. Still, I’ve never experienced anything that compares to last night when Party Animals and the Savannah Bananas fought for a spot in Banana Bowl. We were focused on getting the reactions of the players on both sides on our cameras because we don’t have to focus on the game action for our movie (we can use the game footage). So I had very little situational awareness of what was actually happening in the game, but I was experiencing it through how people reacted to what was going on on the field. In short, it was very disorienting to not know what was taking place. Before the game, I snapped a couple of photos with my phone, and when it was all said and done and everyone was in the plaza I took a few more. The Bananas won the regular season so they were the number one seed and the Party Animals fought like hell to get into the tournament as the number four seed. The tournament was structured so that each of those teams play each other twice. If they each win a game, it went straight to showdowns. The party animals had a big lead going into the final inning and somehow the Bananas were able to win the game. Then it went to a couple of showdowns which were epic. The Bananas pulled out the victory and are going to the bowl. I was focused on shooting on the party animals side of the field, and since I like both teams, and the players on both teams a great deal, every game ends with a real sense of confusion. I imagine that today will be no different

I’m in Birmingham where the Indianapolis Clowns played two games against the Loco Beach Coconuts at @rickwood_field and each team took one game. The Coconuts secured a spot in the tournament that will determine the teams that go to the Banana Bowl, but the last spot is still up in the air going into the final weekend. The Bananas and The Tailgaters also have spots. The Firefighters beat the Party Animals twice in Detroit, clawing back into contention. There is still a path for every team left to get it. This first image came up as a memory from the previous year when @daltonmauldin5 played in front of a huge crowd outside of Yankee Stadium. Last night he got two hits that led to multiple RBI’s. He is one of the few players who was in Birmingham on the inaugural 2022 tour. @flashthakid_ was also there as a Banana, and he also made many bug offensive plays this weekend

This weekend felt momentous in so many ways. The organization has gone through an explosive growth spurt since then- so only a handful of people from that year were here. Having the Clowns play at Rickwood, which has a rich Negro Leauge history, was powerful. First game fell on the anniversary of a 1959 local segregation ordinance (which was overturned by the Civil Rights Act), and the story of the Indianapolis clowns that’s presented at the beginning of the game was more impactful than ever.

To top it off, weather issues, which were a problem in 2022 came up again, and that made this weekend feel even more connected to that story. Also like that year, because the lights don’t work it was almost not possible to finish the a game due to darkness. It was a magical weekend - but so hectic I didn’t make many photos. The ones at the end are from 2022.

Someone asked me, “I put on compression socks because of the pain in my legs. Is that okay?”

For sure it is okay.

My love, this is not a race to see who can be the strongest with pain. We do not want you suffering just to prove that you are doing the work correctly.

Wear the compression socks. Support yourself when the pain is intense. And continue doing the neuroplastic work, little by little, with repetition, patience, and flexibility.

Recovery is not measured only by whether the symptom is there.

Can you lower the fear?

Can you respond with less monitoring and panic?

Can you gently build your capacity and return to your life?

You are not breaking the rules. This is an integrative process.

Watch the video as I share why the relationship you build with your symptoms matters so much.
