I’ve just finished reading this amazing book. It is written with passion and love for both the sport of ultra running and the country of South Africa. It gives insight into living with the atrocities of apartheid and the benefits of being a white man in those conditions. I thought I had a vague idea about apartheid, but this really opened my eyes. The passion @runawaycomrade has for running and the country of his birth shines through in this book. I’m not sure who Cams is that the dedication is written to, but I’m grateful to have found this in an op shop here in Perth, the author’s chosen home in Australia #runawaycomrade #ultrarunner #immigrantstory #comradesmarathon #runningbooks #autobiography

$6 weeks post ankle surgery, 17 weeks post fall & fracture. Ankle X- ray described by surgeon as #beautiful. Music 🎶 to my ears 🙏🏽❤️‍🩹 Now beginning the long road back to fitness & vitality after massive set-backs. A million thanks to awesome orthopaedic surgeon-who rolled up his sleeves & made it happen, @runawaycomrade for being my ‘carer’ considering I could not do much for myself & who I have had to rely on very heavily & loads of other friends who have helped me & lifted drooping spirits. #timetofly #healing #nocrutches #soon #noboot #swimtime #gratitude$

$Re my GR5 hiking fall - I said I was Gutted, Bitterly Disappointed but NOT Broken. Well seems I am! In 2 places. Within 10s of viewing X-ray top orthopaedic specialist of foot and ankles - Mr Callum Clark (Windsor, UK) identified fibula fracture and couldn’t believe 2 French doctors had missed it. 3 sets of X-rays later (he is meticulous beyond!) - the tibia fracture. The fibula fracture is stable but the tibial one required an MRI, which I had yesterday. Kind of explains the very swollen foot and intense dull pain I am enduring!! See Mr Clark tomorrow to hear if I need surgery on tibial fracture. As someone who started every day with a run, swim, hike or walk - the last 16 days have been VERY challenging. Thank God for my right hand man Bob 🤩, gorgeous Marta & Owen, Matts, Jen, Mikes and Grace - who have kept us laughing and upbeat! And loads of kind & encouraging virtual messages 💕 You guys are legends! And of course - precious Pippa 🐶 who helps me heal. So yes I might be twice broken - but my spirit is still intact ……I dream of mountain tops 🏔$
