Another fun @chimarathon race story - part 2

Starting out with @maria.h.payne felt good! We’ve put in so many miles together that we settled right into our stride. 1st mile down, Maria calls out “We’re right on pace!” I felt relieved. 2nd mile, 3rd mile down, same!! 🙌🏻 I was hoping we would continue this way, but we had to pass so many people, so we ended up getting separated around mile 6 🥹

@chimarathon has this awesome blue line that shows the shortest possible distance on the course. I stuck to that thing like gum on my shoe.

Maneuvering my way through the crowd without weaving became a game. I’d chart my path through the crowd in front of me, occasionally slipping between a gap with a gentle “excuse me 🙂🙂”. When the crowd was too thick, I figured it was a chance to slow my pace and relax for a minute or two. As soon as I saw a way through, I’d pick up the pace and go.

Northalstead made me smile! I blew kisses to the dancers on stage and they blew some right back at me!

Chinatown was brilliant!! The dancers! The music! The colors!

But Pilsen has my heart. My Latino friends know what we need at Mile 20. They had tables set up like a gorgeous Mercado: a spread of snacks, sodas, waters!! I locked eyes with a bountiful spectator handing out water bottles and he slipped one right into my hand as I ran past. Perfect 👌🏻
