Third time's a charm!
🏅
This was my 4th marathon, and my third time trying to see if I could go faster than my first marathon. Instead I kept getting slower and I was pretty frustrated. 2023 in particular felt like a year of training hard and well and then not having good race days. After the LA Marathon last year I told my coaches @runfootforward I both never wanted to run a marathon again, and simultaneously I didn’t want that to be my last marathon. 😂 So we decided to do the half in LA and try a different course for my full.

I kept trying to call Mountains 2 Beach my redemption race but one time I forgot the word and called it my “revenge” race and I might like that better. Four years after I ran my first and fastest marathon, now I’ve got a 6 and a half minute PR!

As a back-of-the-pack runner I don’t stress about my time compared to others, but it was really fun and satisfying to work toward a personal goal and see that hard work pay off! And now I’m taking a break from races for a bit (but also already thinking about chasing after a sub-5:30 time! Ha!)

Thanks to @runfootforward for the spot-on training and support, @mincedpork for convincing me to do that 20 mile training run on the course which helped me prepare mentally, @duggiern @duvenroo and @c0m3t for coming up to cheer us on (and Chickie and Chevy and @etphonehomela!) and congrats on great races to @calicuenperez and @one_mora_mile and @mincedpork (who also PR'ed, and BQ'ed for a second time this year!)

And as ever my family was fully supportive in the family text thread during the race, tracking me and my donut icon. 🍩

Stomach staged a cute little revolt halfway through and I missed all my time goals—and that’s okay. This was the most joy I’ve felt in a long time.

Thank you @crownheightsrunningclub and @bedstuyflyers for being the best support group all year. @runfootforward / @matthewous, for keeping me injury free this entire cycle (no small feat) and giving me legs that felt so strong through the very last mile. My body for putting up with a dumb amount of bagels and giving me an appreciation for all the amazing things it can do no matter how it looks.

And to the whole city and all the friends shouting my name along the course, I love you. You make me so grateful to be here in this life.

Running a little harder during the warmup was worth it to spend a little time with this crew @johnbedard @therachelkowalyouknow @andrew.bui while on my way to work

It’s been quite the whirlwind getting to the BK Half start line. But happy to toe the line tomorrow and see what I’ve got.

We are excited to announce that applications for free coaching for one person from Coach @terrikohler and Coach @matthewous (collectively known as Run Foot Forward) for Fall 2023 events. Applications will be accepted through 6/3, and one person will be selected by 6/12.

We are a literal two-person team and we’ve been brainstorming on how to give a little back to the community we love. Running can be expensive and paying for a coach adds to that expense. We hope that this can alleviate that burden for one person, and reach their finish line successfully.

Updated the fridge decor this morning.
🏃🏼‍♀️
There is no way I would have made it through this year's race without the incredible training and support of @runfootforward! The cell reception at the finish line is always wonky and so while I was trying to text my family that I'd finished the first messages that got through to me were from @terrikohler and @matthewous reminding me that even finishing at all was a huge achievement. So glad to have them at my back (and also have them to blame for the sickness that makes me say I never want to do another marathon and also say I don't want this be my last marathon performance! 😂).
🏃🏼‍♀️
I also am so unbelievably lucky to have my family supporting my bonkers decision to start running and to fundraise on top of that. They kept up a text thread - with me in it - that buoyed my spirits throughout. One sister chimed in all the way from Thailand when I finished, and the other Postmated me delicious goodies this morning! So grateful.
♥️
Every year I swear I'm gonna take a selfie with the @teamacpb cheer station and every year I forget (these pics are stolen from the group FB page). But they gave me a major boost just past Mile 16 and we're lucky to have such great supporters, especially in the rain this year!
💜
And a HUGE thank you to all my donors!!! We got over $115,000 raised last night!!

This one felt hard but good. I’m out of practice racing, and I was nervous how it would feel to push, and whether I could mentally keep pushing the whole time. For an ultramarathoner, that’s a humbling perspective in a 10 mile race (at least for me). I found that hard spot. I stayed in it. I ran my own race. I was able to kick at the end. I’d call those wins.

Big big shoutout to @crownheightsrunningclub for being at the top of Battlepass for motivation!

I am very proud to announce I am now an RRCA Level II Adult Distance and Youth certified coach. As a runner and a researcher, I love to learn and dive deeper into the things I love, and this has been a goal of mine for some time. I’m excited to apply the fresh insights and ideas into my own training, our clients through @runfootforward and group training through @nyrr and @greathilltc
