Episode 6 of the Voices of Fronteridades is out now! 🎙️

Learning Across Borders: Migrant Shelters as Spaces of Resistance

In this episode we sit down with Chicana scholar and Ph.D. candidate Juanita Sandoval to explore how migrant shelters along the U.S.-Mexico border can serve as powerful spaces for learning, advocacy, and transformation.

Juanita shares insights from her Mellon-Fronteridades Fellowship research, reflecting on her time in Sonora, Mexico, where she examined the role of pedagogy and activism in supporting migrants.

Tune in to hear how education, storytelling, and community care come together in spaces often overlooked and how this research can impact both sides of the border.

This program is possible through the generous funding of the @mellonfoundation. ✨

✨REPOST💫

Registration for the 2025 Run for the Migrants is OPEN!

This year’s virtual event will be held from June 7th to June 15th but we will also have two in-person events (one in Nogales on June 8th and another in Tucson on June 14th).

For privacy, we will only share the location of in-person events following registration or via direct inquiry.

Don’t feel like running/walking, no worries! You can share your solidarity by providing a donation.

Suggested registration is $10, but we also wanted to give in-person participants the opportunity to bring donations to the event locations. We will be posting a list of products in high-demand for migrant shelters.

Last week, Fronteridades Fellow, Juanita Sandoval picked up 3 boxes and a few bags of winter clothes, hygiene products and other items for the Winter Supply Drive she’s hosing to support asylum seekers throughout Sonora, Mexico. We want to thank all of you who stopped by at our center to donate! ✨

Make sure you clean out your closets this holiday season and bring your donations starting JANUARY 6th to the Confluencenter.

This drive is not over! We will be extending this Winter Supply Drive until January 31st!

The items collected will benefit migrant shelters in Sonora and deported asylum seekers directly at the border.

If you don’t have clothes to donate, please consider contributing through the Run for the Migrants Amazon wishlist or by sending a donation via the Salvavisonaz Venmo account at salvavisonaz.

As we embark on the holiday season @runforthemigrants and @salvavisionaz will be hosting a winter clothing/item drive through the Confluecenter.

These items will benefit migrant shelters throughout Sonora and deported asylum seekers directly at the border.

We need warm clothes and items of all ages but are in high need of men's clothes. Many asylum seekers and migrants are from places with warmer climates and are not prepared or accustomed to cold weather. Additionally, when folks are deported, they are often sent back with nothing but a ziplock bag and no belongings.

We share a common vision of humanitarian aid and migration with dignity across borders.

Thank you for your support. If you don’t have clothes to donate, please consider donating to the Run for the Migrants Amazon wish list or the Salvavisonaz Venmo account @salvavisonaz .

Items can be dropped off at the Confluencenter on U of A Campus 1133 E. Helen St. Tucson, AZ 85719

Friends! I just finished my 5k race this blessed Solstice for Run for the Migrants! It felt soooo good!! Though we’ve exceeded our $2000 goal to support critical food and shelter for those in the throws of migration, I was just gifted an extra $20 for something and I am passing on the love of $21 to this mighty effort! Will you, too, join in the love and gift $1 or $5? Today is the final day ❤️❤️❤️
