June 2026 -🥇at Saysutshun 6 Hour

One of my favourite jokes is “my people don’t do well in the sun!” but it is very true. I sweat a ton and I lose sodium like a margarita glass at happy hour.

So when I saw the forecast I was concerned! But thankfully my amazing crew Nico Lightbody and Mercedes Vince kept me constantly drenched with cold water and packed to the brim with ice. Not only that, but they also brought me another pizza! I wouldn’t have survived this race without these two! Thank you guys so much for crewing for me! ❤️

Okay, so! For those that don’t know, @runsaysutshun is an epic trail race where you pick a racing time category (not distance) and all runners run a beautiful 10km loop around this island as many times as you can and then switch onto a 1km loop to get as many kilometres done as possible. The 6 hour race started at 11am and as soon as I woke up that morning I knew it was going to be a hot one.

The gun went off and I left my Small Gods Run Crew pals and slowly made my way to the front. There were 4 guys at, what I thought was the front, all moving very fast! I started chatting to the two leaders, Cole and Tim. Cole mentioned he thought there was a super fast female way up front that took off right at the beginning.

I ran with Cole and Tim for the first 20km (2 laps) and we were moving fast but I didn’t think too fast. I wanted to bag a time bank because I knew I’d start to slow as the day went on and I wanted to stay in the fight for the win.

When we came into the aid station at the end of the 2nd lap both Cole and Tim stopped to change shoes but I kept rolling. I had my aid and transitions into each lap dialled so I didn’t have to stop or loose anytime.

My goal was to hit 60km in 6 hours and that would require 0 wasted time.

I started my 4th lap feeling amazing and excited to find 1st and keep flying. 3km later I found 1st. Amelie had gone out VERY fast and the only reason I caught her is because she was cramping. So we chatted a bit then I continued on but only 1km later… I started cramping out of nowhere! Amelie, caught me and kept rolling. (More in comments)

Today was a hard day on the trails. It was my slowest Diez ever! But I fueled like a champ, had the energy to run at the end (even though the legs didn’t totally cooperate) and more then that ALL the friends! A huge group from @smallgodsbrewing Run Club. Many other island friends. Many mainland friends both running and volunteering ❤️ we got our Gary hug and while I don’t want to now, I know I’ll be back
