Great North Run 2026 done 🏅

My ninth GNR and still my favourite race weekend of the year especially when it includes a parkrun meet up the day before.

A warm race this year 🥵 and the legs didn’t quite have the speed in the second half, so the time goal slipped away but it was still a great race. That last mile along the coast road was truly awesome again!!

The atmosphere and support on the course was epic as ever and great to have some cheer squadders on route. The post race meet up with pals is fab and makes it a fantastic race day.

Will I be back next year for my tenth attempt? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Medal Monday,
The Great North Run. As always a fantastic day.

Not the race I trained for or the one I wanted.
The heat was brutal, and apologies if tmi but running on your period is no joke.

My second #greatnorthrun and this was never going to be a repeat or improvement on last year due to many niggles.

However the plan was simple run, enjoy it and finish

That I did, but warmer than expected and made use of the water sprays to cool off a little

Good to see some friends and didn’t realise that others I know were there, well done to all that took part today.

Great North Run 2026! 🙌
That was awesome 👟👟🙌 my first time running this event and it really lived up to the hype! Id say the atmosphere was on par with London marathon but in this case you're racing half the distance, which felt fantastic 🤪
1:43 made up!!!! Already in the ballot for next year 👊
Such a busy event, hard to meet up with everyone but great to bump into so many familiar faces, well done all

Week 11 of @yorkshiremarathon training is in the books. The mileage has been ramping up over the past few weeks, and with a return to busy work life after the summer hols it’s added a new level of tiredness. A de-load week planned for next week to recover before I tackle my longest run of the plan.

Shoutout to getting my 18 miles done before joining the cheer squad at the great north run. And a shoutout to parkrun Saturday, getting to meet up with so many lovely people from @whatthefartlek_podcast and being able to have a nice chatty run with @usingh_bolt.

It's Great North Run weekend, our favourite weekend of the year as it brings the great and good of the running world to the North East, starting with a lovely parkrun, breakfast and paddle in the sea at Blyth. So good to see all the ##whatthefartlekpodcast faces and shorts.

Then it's on to the GNR tomorrow. Jack has probably gone on too much about what a crappy year it's been injury wise but it has been really tough for long periods. Throughout all that, the GNR sat there as the one non-negotiable; we were doing it even if we had to walk the entire way - it's the GNR after all.

Thankfully, we've got to a place where we can be pretty confident we can get round ok, so we can go and just enjoy the event for what it is. Targets are to hi-five everyone, take every jelly baby on offer and drink the rank beer handed out at mile 10.

I always love GNR weekend. Not because I’m running it (twice was enough) but because it always becomes a @whatthefartlek_podcast gathering. This time was no different and we dragged them all to our local.

Lovely chatty run with @laura_ontherun followed by breakfast. Essential preparations underway for cheer squad tomorrow (see you at mile 4!)

Good luck to all our members taking on the Belfast Marathon this Sunday! 🙌

We’ve got some of the crew running the full marathon solo, and plenty more teaming up for the relay — it’s amazing to see so many of you getting involved.

Good luck to our boys Gareth & Richard today!

They’re currently taking on the Manchester to Liverpool 50 Mile Ultra Marathon!

The lads have already set off, so let’s get behind them and show some support to help carry them across that finish line later today! 💪

Massive credit to both of them for the work they’ve put in and an incredible achievement to take on a challenge of this size.

Also a big shoutout to our very own Coach Ruth, who has been working closely with them to keep their strength training dialled in and bodies prepared for the challenge ahead.

Let’s show them some encouragement and help push them through those final miles later today!

Good luck to Gareth & Ricky taking on the Manchester ➡️ Liverpool 50 mile ultra today 🙌🏻 (not that yous need it at all!)

Months of hard work, early mornings, long long runs, strength sessions, and showing up when it wasn’t easy… all leading to this.

You’ve both put in the work — now it’s time to go and show it. 😆

Go smash it guys. 💪
