$✨ Book Review ✨ The Family Break Ruth Irons ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Time away with all expenses paid in exchange for a review, travel agent Allegra is keen on this week long break with her family. With her husband and two kids, four other family members and her assistant in tow, this week should be filled with nothing but fun activities, spa treatments and wine. But instead of relaxing, things begin to fracture. Relationships are tested, a threatening message is painted on their accommodation and a dead bird is left on their deck. It soon becomes clear that someone doesn’t want them to have a nice family break, it’s clear they want to break them apart. __________________ ✨ No Spoilers ✨ When Ruth very kindly offered to send me a copy of The Family Break, I jumped at the chance. I love a domestic thriller and this one did not disappoint! This had tension, characters I loved and characters I loved to hate (looking at you, Graham!) and ample of suspense. I also liked that the children had little personalities and were part of the story too. In most thrillers I’ve read, the kids mostly feel more like side characters while the rest of the drama is unfolding, but I loved how they seemed involved and included in the overall plot. It really added to the “family” feel. The setting was perfect. I love a destination thriller (give me all the death and drama in a luxury villa in the Mediterranean!) but this was another refreshing change to have a local holiday location too. The woodland area and cabins in the trees really helped build the suspense, especially after dark where everything is pitch black and every sound is heightened. It made the setting also feel like a character. The plot was really well balanced between the drama, suspense and all the family dynamics and relationships. I also loved that just when I thought it was all over, there was just that little bit more and a final twist which left you questioning and doubting things. Such a satisfying ending!! I’ve also read Ruth’s two previous thrillers The Perfect Guest and Home Sweet Home and if you haven’t read any yet, you definitely should! #bookreview #thrillerbooks #reading$
