‘BLACK NARCISSUS’ (R S T version). A re.imagining of Joe Henderson’s jazz classic. Had to give it that re.verse style treatment 🔊 🌊 R S T (re.set) is: @soundslikediomo 🎸 @austinonthedrums 🥁 @tink_musik 🎹 Big thanks to @jonrollout for having us play at @rollout ‘s beautiful upstairs space on Queen West / Trinity Bellwoods🌳🌅 😍 Also Austin took a 🔥 drum solo on this which I wanted to include, but reels over 3mins are apparently not shown to new audiences! (understandable for this platform I guess 😆). So there might have to be a part 2 for that, and y’all can see what we get into next… 👀 #rst #jazz #instrumental #groove #blacknarcissus

With the fingerboard replaced, pleked, and re-fretted now this seven string bass is much easier to play, and of course it helps that Damian is a great bass player. It’s such a good feeling to bring an instrument back to life.

This was a challenging project for me but with the help of my dear friend George of @gvcustominstruments, we managed to replace the fingerboard, Plek it, and later I was able to hand plane a twist into the fingerboard and re-fret it. Looks great and plays well I’d say.

This handmade seven-string bass came into the shop needing some major neck and fingerboard work. The original fingerboard was made from curly roasted maple, but the fret slots had been cut too deep, causing the neck to bow significantly. It also had no radius across the fingerboard, which made the bass difficult to play. With the help of my friend George, we planed off the fingerboard on his CNC, added two carbon-fiber reinforcement rods, and fabricated a new ebony fingerboard. The new board is considerably thicker, which not only allows us to cut a compound radius on the PLEK machine, but also adds a lot more stiffness to the neck. After re-spraying the neck in the booth, I’m now at the final stages of the repair. Next, I’ll hand-plane a slight twist in to the fingerboard before re-fretting it. A lot of work has gone into bringing this one back into shape, but it’s getting there
