Good morning! Excellent weather for pouring another cup of coffee and digging into our latest newletter. News, industry opportunities and links we can't wait to share with you including some of the gems highlighted here:
1. Two new site-specific artworks commissioned by our friends at RXART Projects at Toronto hospitals: Jordan Bennet’s Blueberries with Nan at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Elizabeth McIntosh’s Inside Out at West Park Healthcare Centre (shown here).
2. Shelagh Keeley’s exhibition “Film Notebooks 1985-2017” is on at the Power Plant. From April 11th through September 14th, The Powerplant will present works from Keeley’s extensive archive. Follow this link for information about the exhibition. Also, check the limited edition we did with Shelagh at I Heart Your Work Art Futures.
3. Stunning Frescoes of Dionysian Cult Rituals Unearthed in Pompeii. During the excavation of a banquet hall in Central Pompeii a colossal fresco depicting Dionysian rituals was unearthed.

RxART Canada (@rxartcanada), a not-for-profit organization, is announcing its Canadian debut with two new art installations in hospitals across Toronto on April 8. The featured work is by celebrated Canadian artists Jordan Bennett and Elizabeth McIntosh.

RxART Canada’s mission is to enhance health and healing by displaying exceptional museum-quality art installations in hospital environments, at no cost to the hospitals. Their work transforms hospital environments into uplifting, creative spaces that promote relaxation and joy.

Bennett’s vibrant piece Blueberries with Nan can be viewed at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. A Mi’kmaw visual artist, Bennett combines cultural symbols with contemporary forms, creating a powerful message of resilience. McIntosh’s Inside Out at West Park Healthcare Centre evokes warmth and comfort through a multi-wall installation inspired by traditional French wallpaper, creating a home-like atmosphere. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the new art installation at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. 🫐🎨

Mi’kmaq artist jordanbennettart’s “Blueberries with Nan” is an homage to time spent with his grandmother learning about the land and the cycle of life. The piece is rich in colour and symbolism:
🫐 blueberries for medicine, power and hope
💗 pink curves for breath, growth and life
🔥 flame for change and renewal
💧water for connection to Mother Earth
⭐ stars and petroglyphs for connection to ancestors and the spirit world

This once blank wall is now vibrant and colourful thanks to @RxArtCanada, who organized the donation of this piece and generously funded its materials and installation. It joins a collection of pieces in The Princess Margaret’s Cancer and the Arts program, curated to provide patients, staff and visitors with moments of respite, optimism, contemplation and healing.

“Between the Lines” is gifted to patients in hospitals across Canada as a therapeutic tool to support @rxartcanada hospital projects:

“The mission of RxART Canada is to promote health and stimulate healing by transforming and brightening hospital facilities with extraordinary museum-quality art installations. Every project is produced at no cost to the hospitals we work with.

We commission established contemporary artists to transform healthcare facilities into engaging and inspiring environments full of beauty, humour, and comfort. RxART Canada advances public access to and appreciation of the arts by introducing original artwork to hospital spaces for contemplation, display, and education.”
