Say hello to Nikita, Yan, and Ilya.

👋

Ersatz (Эрзац) is a noise rock band from Moscow. Last fall, Ryan of Friends & Aliens Records recorded the group at @redeyesmoscow in a live video session resulting in the four-song live EP: "ERSATZ: LIVE AT RED EYES MOSCOW."

Full video is available on our YouTube channel. Audio streaming available on Bandcamp and the other places.

Vinyl? Maybe coming soon. Stay tuned.

Shoutout to Red Eyes for their super-pro staff and incredible equipment. Mixing this one was easy thanks to their diligent and careful recording work.

Ladies and gentlemen: Flatwounds!

This one has been a long time in the works, and Friends and Aliens is very excited to announce the release of Flatwounds "Raw" (Live).

At long last.

Sometime last fall, when Friends & Aliens Records was just getting off the ground, we invited the best young grunge/hardcore band around -- Albany-based Flatwounds -- to come do a live session at @hesher.studios

We normally do 4-song sessions, but they had something different in mind: a live version of their debut 5-song EP, Raw. Well how could we pass that up?

The result was indeed live. No overdubs, no click tracks, no nothing but pure rock energy, youthful angst, and raw power.

They ran through their set twice. I think we went with the second take because the video was a bit better, but either would have been killer. These guys are tight.

The full live video is out on the Friends & Aliens YouTube channel -- link in bio. Go watch and leave a comment so the world knows you were there.

Audio is live on Spotify and everywhere else. Please save -- it helps a lot.

If you know a band who might like to do a live video session with us: reach out!

The time has come. After 6 years I have decided it’s time to call it a wrap.
The last No Love Songs show will be Sunday, March 16th at the Bowery Electric. We’d love to see you there!
The joys of the band no longer exceed the effort it takes to keep it going. This is a grind, as every band knows.
To wit: I tried running NLS as a business and couldn’t figure out how to stop losing money hand over fist.
Rehearsals, recordings, transportation, marketing, and more all add up. Selling an occasional t-shirt or CD to friends (which: thank you!) doesn’t fix a very upside down balance sheet. I guess I’m not the first person to discover it’s hard to make a living in music.
Many thanks to all the musicians who have worked on this project (including 8 drummers - wow!). I wish I could repay you as your talent deserves.
My current band has been as good as it gets, and
to Gus and Lui I say, “Gracias, amigos.” 🙏
Much respect to all the bands in New York and elsewhere pushing through and keeping on. I won’t be leaving the music scene, necessarily. I’ll just be refocusing on other priorities.

Keep rocking.
🤘
Ryan

Put the songwriting gifts of Lennon and McCartney in the body of a self destructive punk rocker and you've got Kurt Cobain.

There will never be another one like you. Happy birthday, KC.
