POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When we started the MacDonell Foundation, it began as a logistical move to help with our fundraising efforts. It has since become something we are so blessed to be part of, and none of it could happen without the outpouring of support from our friends, family, and community.

Today is Dad’s birthday, and as we reflect on this weekend, all we can think about is how happy he would be to see so many people, just shy of 200 runners, and the many sponsors, volunteers, and friends, from so many different walks of life coming together on Saturday. Whether you came for the run, the conversations, or because we (lovingly) forced you to.

Above everything, Dad was a people person. Bringing people together, giving to those he could, and having a good time with those he loved and those he’d never met were the things that he found the most joy in. While he wasn’t physically there with us, we know he was looking down beaming.

So, to everyone who spent Saturday morning with us, donated, sponsored, or just came to hang out and cheer: thank you. You not only mean the world to us, you are also helping fund resources for Long Island families navigating the difficulties of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

We hope you had as good a day as we did, and we cannot wait to come back even better next year.

Thank you so much for the support of our 1st Race to End Alz 5K this past weekend! We had an incredible turnout and were able to raise both funds and awareness for a cause that means so much to so many families—including our own. We are so grateful to all of our participants, sponsors and volunteers.

Hosting this event for the first time was a milestone, and we couldn’t have done it without your support, energy, and spirit. Seeing our community come together in such a meaningful way was truly inspiring.

Together, we’re moving closer to a future without Alzheimer’s.

When #SJNY alumnus Ryan MacDonell ’20 learned his father, Scott, had Alzheimer’s disease in 2018 at the age of 62, he was moved to take action. For him, that meant learning more about the disease and connecting with the @alzassociation, the largest nonprofit research funder for Alzheimer’s.

Today, he sits on the board of the Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to help educate and offer hope to others navigating this degenerative brain disease that affects more than 55 million people worldwide.

Inspired by his father's diagnosis with Alzheimer's, Ryan MacDonell ’20 joined the board of the Long Island Chapter of the @alzassociation.

In this position, the @stjoesny alumnus hopes to help people better understand the disease, to get rid of the stigma surrounding it, and to be an advocate for the millions like his dad.
