Stumbled across these old pictures Ryan took of my studio while we were still in the thick of building and our first child had just begun walking 🐛 Time has sped up since then: I’ve been in the studio long enough to make a mess of it, watch our second child learn to walk around it, and next the third child. Taking any and all boy name suggestions.

My Beloved
2024, oil on canvas in antique frame, 16 x 18 inches

Our property used to be home to a small commercial chicken farm, with two 140 foot long pole barns. One was long gone before us, and now the site of my studio. The other one remains and has been converted into my husband’s studio, his furniture shop. The roof is old tin with plenty of pinholes, and on a clear day the sunshine pokes through, casting fine points of light. He uses his hands as a woodworker, and they’ve seemed to grow larger over the last several years. Years ago, I selected a hammered finish for his wedding band so as to not show wear and tear as he worked, and its gold has instead been worn smooth and shiny by continuous use. The light’s energy is held freely in his open palm.

Big strides in the past several months to get the place set up. Huge thanks to @ryan_pierce_woodworker for all the hard work thru the Summer. It sure has been hot at times.
Can’t wait to get the business fully running in the next couple months. Loving the time spent in Coffeeville.

We unloaded our first log at the mill yesterday, a large white oak, that should be interesting inside. We were able to load the log onto the trailer with a log arch we made, which allows us to load a log without heavy machinery - we’ll post more on that process later. Things are steadily pressing along here and we’ll soon begin construction on our dehumidification kiln.
