So lucky and grateful to be alive!

Oliver Tree Nickell had invited me to join him in Rio this June for a two-week work session, between his South America tour and his Europe tour.

He was leading our marketing, roll-out and go-to-market for Unit Network. One of the smartest, most connected and hardest-working people I’ve ever met or worked with. A true honour.

But I’d been invited to speak at a family office event in Paris, and had a mountain of work to catch up on, so I decided not to go.

So alongside losing one of my closest friends, this feels like a near-death experience. I’d most likely have been with him. Please, everyone, avoid helicopters.

I was born on 6 Nov 1993, which means I’ve been alive 11,976 days. If I make it to 80, that’s 29,220 days.

So I have 17,244 left, if I’m lucky, maybe longevity research stretches that. Let’s see. Either way, I’m going to live each one to the fullest and do my best.

Here with Paul Donatelli, one of Oliver’s two managers, who joined him for the South America tour in Chile, Argentina and Mexico but skipped Rio and flew back to LA via Mexico City.

Paul travelled with Oliver almost everywhere, so we’re lucky to still have him around.

The week after Oliver passed, I flew London to LA and back for the weekend, to spend time at his manager’s house with so many of the people who loved and appreciated him.

Oliver used to tell me you never know when today could be your last. I’d reply that with longevity R&D we might live to 150, we just needed to survive the next 5 years. This has made me revisit that for sure. Stay safe everyone!

Peace be with Oliver. On July 25th we honored the life of a son, a friend and an artist whose memory will echo throughout history. A once in a generation human being that will never be replicated. It was my life’s greatest honor to document this performance with the whole crew one last time. We all love you so much. Long live Alien Boy. Oliver Tree Forever.

Here’s my Oliver speech ā¬†ļø
In the creative language he showed me I had. His passing has been something words cannot explain, but I feel so grateful I was able to contribute to the Oliver Tree team for the first time. It didn’t leave me with enough time to write a verbal speech that I know he wouldn’t wanna hear anyways.
The Family Tree is now bigger than ever.
Love you forever brobro šŸ«¶šŸ¾

Here’s the full speech in case anyone was curious. Thank you all for coming out and tuning in ā¤ļø Sorry to all the speakers and guests we couldn’t fit in. Oliver left such a big impact, it was tough to have a time limit.

We look forward to sharing more of the beautiful art and memories oliver left with us ā¤ļø

Happy 33rd birthday to my close friend, Oliver Tree.

We were supposed to be in Spain celebrating your birthday today. You were so excited for the trip, and I was looking forward to joining you for part of your 80+ city world tour. I had been listening to your new album and couldn’t wait to sing along to it live.

Thank you for always being the friend I could count on. You constantly believed in me and encouraged me to keep going, no matter what other people thought or said. You reminded me that people will always criticise, judge or doubt you, but that shouldn’t stop you from building what you believe in.

You often told people I was one of the most positive friends you had. I loved how excited you were about our shared mission to change the way people experience money through Unit, helping build a more abundant and free society. I’ll do my best to make you proud.

Thank you for all of your wild marketing ideas and crazy plans. You inspired me to post more, share more, and not be afraid to put myself out there. I still haven’t made the viral TikToks you always wanted me to, but I’ll get there.

We first met in Antarctica, the seventh continent, and instantly clicked. We were both born in 1993, loved creating things, travelling and exploring new cultures.

When we met, I hadn’t heard your music before, but I quickly became a fan. I came to appreciate not only the catchy songs and incredible performances, but also the creativity and authenticity behind everything you made.

Together we explored the world, from Barbados to Seoul, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to Montenegro, Estonia and many more places.

I couldn’t join you on your planned trips to visit the Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania, or through Kazakhstan and the rest of Central Asia, because of a back injury from marathon and Ironman training. I wish I had.

Some of my favourite memories are simply walking, cycling and sharing great meals together in New York, London and Los Angeles.
