This is a monitor screenshot from a shoot we did with DP @zach.lowry! We were working with some WW2 era planes and had the opportunity to shoot through the back gun portal on a bomber that had been retrofitted in the 40s to transport people rather than bombs. This allowed us to get some pretty rad plane to plane shots as we flew over Long Island

Working with the wonderful @marcellemazzini and capturing multiple camera passes in one camera move with the power of our Colossus robot arm! The concept behind this shoot is that there are multiple ‘rainbow’ shaped movements that the camera does. Each rainbow gets slightly closer to the model so that what started out as a full body frame, becomes a tight close up. The edit will have hidden cuts as the camera comes to the end of the rainbows and a new model is then revealed in the next movement. Normally this would mean that you would have to build a rig that could move the camera in this way, and then move that rig several times to get the tighter and tighter shots. But with the robot arm, not only do we not have to worry about matching the speed of the camera movement for every model, but the arm can move the camera to the next start point of the next rainbow movement without cutting. This allows us to shoot out a model or an unique look in one take, rather than having to film all the models in the wide shot, move the rig, film all the models again, move the rig…etc.

Lego day! This is a Stranger Things set, it can be flipped upside down to show its darker Upside Down version. We shoot this with a water tray to show the reflection of the piece. So the idea is to film passes of the set with our robot arm, then flip the set over and film those same passes with the dark realm version of the set. Then, in post we will set the Upside Down version of the set as the reflection for the normal side of the set and vice versa.

Chilling between takes with our robots! Here we’re filming a shoe commercial that, as you might have guessed, is essentially a shoe floating around a digital environment. The camera is mounted to our Colossus robot arm, and the shoe is mounted to a motion control rig that turns and spins the shoe as the Colossus moves the camera around. The motion control rig moving the shoe helps create the illusion that the camera is able to move completely around the shoe in any direction. This is helpful because the robot arm holding the camera can only ‘bend’ around the shoe so far before it twists upon itself. There will always be a side of the shoe that the robot won’t be able to see. So we use a 2nd rig to move the shoe so that the camera can see any side, which creates the illusion of the camera essentially ‘floating’ all around the shoe.

Years ago I was asked to introduce Cannondale’s aero bike - the System Six. Our budget was the same as the bike’s retail price. Directing is all about working within confines, within set limits to push the envelope as far as it can go. @patriciacruzjamandre & @zach.lowry and I were forced to find production value anywhere we could to match the bike’s sophistication. Thank you to @curfew.tv for all the support and @james_lalonde for the vision. #Film #directing #commercials

Navigating a forest set for a candle spot with our robot arm! Best way to film in a set that you don’t want to destroy with a tripod or slider.

A crazy fashion week runway build. I have no idea what they do with that much pink sand after the show is over.

An old BTS photo from the MoVi M15 days! We didn’t have a good counterweight system at the time so we made do with a C-Stand gobo head attached to the back of the camera.
