Three years of high school weight training, sometimes three workouts a day, and a nickname that stuck: “Big Dog.” The weight room is about more than getting stronger. Watch and listen to the episode with Rylea Alvin. #volleyballathlete

Creatine doesn’t replace the work, you still have to train. And why should the guys be the only ones taking it? The goal is to get the whole NIU Huskies volleyball team on board. Catch the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts, wherever you usually listen. #CreatineForWomen

Volleyball gets better when clean technique meets real athletic power — sharper blocking hands, a solid platform, and the speed, jump, and strength to back them up. Tune in on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts, wherever you like to listen. #volleyballtechniques

Practical strength goals work best when athletes focus on moving well first. A front squat benchmark can guide student progress while keeping technique and consistency at the center. Listen to the full episode of *Oak Performance Radio* now.

A recruiting test is one moment, not the whole picture. Rylea Alvin shares how a disappointing day of testing and a conversation about the work she put into bouncing back helped NIU feel like the right fit. There’s more to that story in the full episode. #athleticperformance

Swimming helped Rylea Alvin build her frame, and strength training added power. But at the Division I level, being able to jump high isn’t enough, you have to hit with force and finish the play.

Rylea talks about volleyball strength and power on Oak Performance Radio.

What happens when a small-town multi-sport kid blows out both ACLs before college and still ends up a D1 middle?

Want some inspiration? Check out this podcast featuring RyRy @ryleaalvin #Sting18Gold2024. I don’t like using the term warrior for athletes but in this case, it is very much earned. Two ACL’s and never gave up and came back stronger than ever on multiple fronts. Amazing human and everything Sting athletes should emulate.

Episode 186: ACL Injuries to D1 Volleyball How Strength Training Changed Everything.

Adam sits down with NIU middle blocker Rylea Alvin, a 6'2" “Big Dog” in the weight room who didn’t even like volleyball at first and then tore both ACLs in high school. She walks through growing up a swimmer and hooper in tiny Randolph, Wisconsin, missing a state title run from the bench, and then choosing to live in the weight room instead of feeling sorry for herself.

Tune in and enjoy the show!
