This was such a unique travel experience. We didn’t spend time getting the “perfect” IG photo. This wasn’t Punta Cana. We weren't in 5-star hotels with white robes and cucumbers on our eyes. We were in a town littered with trash. We were bit up by flies, we squeezed into a van to get to places, the humidity was crazy, we struggled with splitting checks, plans were change more than once, and we had roosters and the sound of construction waking us up every morning 😂 it wasn’t a luxury trip with all the amenities by any means. Yet I think that’s why it made it more special. Almost every night we spent time either playing catch phrase or getting to know each other. We laughed and cried (Teresa: I want to see someone cry tonight!) We’d get into deep conversations then group hug after. When plans change we'd improvise like going to a cigar bar and karaoke. Then we’d Meme each other and make silly tik toks. All of this while being part of a cause that we love in the 4North Project. It was such a joy to be apart of.⁣⁣

These are the kind of trips that leave you wanting more and that'd you wish you could share it with more people. We didn't know what to expect going into it but left with some incredible memories. Made all the planning (and recruiting!) leading up to the trip worth it!

Grateful for each of these humans for sharing this experience and that our lives intersected IRL. Excited to see what the future holds and we hope to share these experiences with more of our travel nursing fam in the future! *cough*December*cough (not Covid) ⁣⁣

“Hey all! Happy New Year! I’m Ryan, I am a behavioral/mental health nurse working in Michigan. I work FT while also attending grad school to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. •
I’ve been a nurse for 6 years (TIME FLIES) and I was a travel nurse for two years all working Psych units. Travel nursing was a great way to grow professionally and individually while exploring the country 13 weeks at a time. It reenergized my love for nursing at a time when I felt I needed a change in scenery. •
What inspired me to become a nurse was really the flexibility and job opportunities that came with the position. My parents came to America when they were 18 and 16, raising 5 children living off a CNA salary. I’m super thankful for my parents because none of what I’m doing today would be possible without the sacrifices they made in the past.

When it comes to nurturing, I listen to music on the daily to decompress and when I need to focus. Specifically, 'chill lo-fi study beats' on Spotify is a current playlist that helps me with both studying and decompressing. I play a lot of basketball and I swim laps when work/life gets really tough. Something about swimming that’s really therapeutic for me. Also lighting up a candle and spraying some eucalyptus in my room helps to. Also can’t forget chocolate, cheesecake and/or ice cream...those help too 😉 hopefully everyone’s New Year is going great so far! Catch ya around! ✌️ - Ryan”

"What are you?" - I get this question a lot. I usually respond with "what do you mean?" But, I know exactly what they mean. I've been asked the same question throughout my life. ▪️They want to know what race/ethnicity I am ▪️No harm in asking, right? 🦋I'm African American and Scottish, mostly. ---------------
