Tcherepnin has developed a performance for modular synthesizer and keyboard based on his exhibition Miracle of Love originally shown at Twinkler, Vienna. The work was originally composed for a floor covered in 20,000 recycled ball pit balls. The composition is made from “Love Frequencies” and subharmonic sequences. The composition in the room was meant to be felt as much as it was heard.

Sergei Tcherepnin is an artist whose practice spans music, visual art and performance. His installations and performances bring together sound and image through tapping in to the sculptural possibilities of sound. His works for modular synthesizer create dreamy new worlds that are tactile and psychological. Having studied with and worked for artist Maryanne Amacher, his work carries on her legacy of composing for a “perceptual geography,” developing the interplay within a single work between the ways in which one receives and processes music. Tcherepnin has performed at venues in NY such as Blank Forms, Roulette, The Stone, Guggenheim Museum, Transpecos, Issue Project Room, and the Kitchen. He has been in group exhibitions at the Whitney Biennial, Greater New York at PS1, the 30th São Paulo Biennial, Museum of Modern Art; Pavilion of Georgia at the 55th Venice Biennale. Solo exhibitions have been held at Murray Guy (New York), Foksal Gallery (Warsaw), Company Gallery (New York), Overduin and Co (LA), Karma International (Zurich). Recent performances and exhibitions include Miracle of Love at Presshouse (Vienna) and Issue Project Room (New York), Sub at Twinkler (Vienna); Cloud Babies, Night Babies as part of the Japanese Pavillion in the Venice Biennale; and Birds as part of the group exhibition Lebt und Arbeitet in Wien, Kunsthalle Wien. His music for Fern Silva’s film Rock Bottom Riser won Best Original Music at Cinéma du Réel at the Pompidou in 2021.

🎵The Lindemann's Main Hall is currently set up in its ambisonic cube configuration ⬜, where one of the main walls has traveled halfway across the space to create the perfect venue for spatial audio 🔊. Check out this feature of last year’s Residual Noise conference to get into the cube groove!

⚡️Entering Ambisonic Cube mode!⚡️
For the first time since opening in October 2023, The Lindemann's Main Hall will be in ambisonic cube configuration. But what exactly is that?? 🤔 Good question!

The ambisonic cube features 40-channel audio, equipped with 43 speakers that allow sound to be moved and presented in a virtual hemisphere. This creates a unique 3-D aural experience and a sense of being enveloped by the sound. 🔊

You can experience the ambisonic cube and learn more about contemporary sonic practices next week during Residual Noise: a three-day festival highlighting the work of artists and scholars from Brown, RISD, and beyond. The Main Hall will be open to the public for a special "View the Cube!" event on Thursday, April 3 from 4:30-6:30pm. No ticket required, come through!

I've been working for quite a while with a great crew here to make this a reality. Happy that it is finally happening.

Residual Noise, a festival highlighting a wide range of work that takes place in sound: noise, voice, audio narrative, field recording, and related sonic practices. Over the course of three days, Residual Noise will include audio concerts, installations, and a conference, all featuring works by Brown and RISD faculty and students, along with a number of prominent guest artists in the field.

For the first time since The Lindemann Performing Arts Center's opening, the Main Hall will be in ambisonic cube formation — a unique venue designed for spatial audio presentations.
